If I recall correctly, James explained the "nerd face" in an old James & Mike Mondays video, he invented it as a kid and would practice it sometimes when he was bored, it's supposed to look like a cartoon character, and there are actually two of these faces, a shocked one with mouth open and an angry one with mouth closed. At some point he simply stopped caring if these faces make any sense in the situation, which drew a lot of negative attention towards them.

Here's the thing: even if James wanted to retire _The Angry Video Game Nerd_ now or ten years ago, he couldn't because it's his main source of income. He's only 43. No doubt he's proud of his work, feels extremely fortunate to have had the success he's had, and loves his fans, but I imagine being locked into what was once a hobby can occasionally wear on you a bit. But yes, I'm very forgiving with the occasional newer, subpar episode because, like OP said, he's given us hundreds of hours of content (many of which I find myself going back to repeatedly over the years) for free. Also, there are still good episodes and moments, and I've never, like, found any of the episodes detestable or something. I don't know him or what his life is like or what his schedule's like (it's none of our business!), but I believe him 100% when he basically says he does all he can. Every person is different, but maybe some of you will get it a little later in life. I don't even have kids or a wife and my downtime is pretty damn scarce and precious. Again, hours and hours of free content. So many laughs, often when I really needed them. I wish him nothing but the best.

The reality of all this is that clearly James is somewhat content with what he has now, having work life balance thanks to Screenwave. He’s gotten older and has a family, and clearly this was the only way to keep paying the bills whilst still somewhat doing what he enjoys, albeit cutting out the hours he used to need to do hardcore video editing or self made productions. But also yes, the cliche “avoid mental health and burnout problems” wave that has happened with Many content creators, this was a blessing in disguise now if you really think about it. Now he’s got a crew helping him out and he’s purely the actor now. I don’t think it’s a bad thing but I think where it falls sadly in the end was his friends on the journey. The only series that seems to retain this feeling is Neighbour Nerds, but it’s sad how this practically took over James and Mike Mondays. They are still quite entertaining, thank god his childhood friend and neighbour has such a funny personality and memorable voice but at what expense, so many others.

What's that pixel font you used? It looks like the font used in the RPGe Final Fantasy V fan-translation except with some differences.

I never got his my kids excuse tbh.. i mean there are men out there that have their paternity leave but return to work like normal. Isn't technically what he does is a full time job? Get a baby sitter. Lol

Plus, he accidentally makes his wife look like a lazy, useIess partner who does nothing around the house... I can't believe how his fans or James can't notice that...

I notice there was one entry not on here. That tweet where Mike Matei raged at people for using save states and telling them that if they used them, they didn't beat the damn game.

He still adheres to this opinion, literally his recent Rondo of Blood stream, he made fun of those who use save states for about 10 minutes. And by the way, he is right.

As a new fan who never watched Avgn until recently this videos tone is so mean spirited toward James. Everything I’ve seen from him he just seems genuine and nice. You showed good topics that yeah James should be criticized for and has been but the jabs and dunks are so unnecessary comes off way more biased and attacking.

I still like the avgn stuff. We are close to the same age and i can understand how changes in life make your priorities change and you dont have the same goofy sense of humor you once had
@Mymloch Жыл бұрын
Aside from the Screenwave stuff (those guys seem like clowns), this all just seemed to only exist to be mean-spirited rather than try to be informative in any sort of way. Having an AI James voice over it galvanizes that as the intent, I think.

So it's only "mean-spirited" if it's about people you like? 😒

One thing you didn't mention is the bandito also appeared in a now removed animated video Kung Fu Bandito probably uploaded early 2007. Loco Bandito fighting opponents using the Kung Fu engine and the Nerd appears at the end with the Return of Ganon like image.
