Roth was never half as good as Sam. Good front man, yes. But never half the singer. Van Halen was good with Roth. They were great with Sam. It wasn't just Sam. The group was better. All of them were unleashed when Roth was out. And honestly, Roth was great in his first two solo albums after VH. It was just time for them to grow apart and do what made them better. At the time it was lime having two van halen groups. I'm glad to have experienced all of it.

The not so secret weapon in this band is Vic Johnson. He can play anything. There's only one Eddie. But Vic pulls off his parts plenty convincing enough. You can say the same about Jimmy Page, or Ronnie Montrose. Vic does it all. He's amazing.

I loved Sammy the first time I heard him and he's still my favorite after all the these years and I'm 63. I go see him every time he comes close. I didn't name my child after him but I did name my dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, Sammy. He had reddish blond hair and was always happy and full of energy, just like Sammy, even when he got older. Sammy let me sit on stage at his concert once in Tucson and came over to make sure I was good in the middle of the concert. I was flattered. I am a quadriplegic in an electric wheelchair, paralyzed 36 years. :)
