The City of Krishna’s Dvaraka: From Mythology to History | Dr. Nalini Rao | Sangam Talks

The discovery of the underwater city of Krishna’s Dvaraka in Western India has shaped the trajectory of study of the historicity of Mahabharata, and particularly of Shri Krishna. The scientific underwater excavations conducted by Dr. S.R.Rao,
from 1981 to 1995, with 14 cruises to Dvaraka and 11 to Bet Dvaraka has been acknowledged world- wide. The talk examines the problems faced, the types of artifacts discovered, the integrated method, analysis, interpretation, the challenges that the site faces today and what can be done for its preservation and conservation today.

It was a wow lecture mam . I am a big fan ofMR. S R RAO . Like father is daughter . Same passion . Same dedication when you speak about work it reminds me of that legend . As a school student we were not lucky to know this information in school books . The little we read about it also only stated it as a literary work and mythology . I want my kids to read it as a history book . More of Krishna as a great king who ruled a part of our land and his law of Dharma and his kingdom Dwarka and this is possible only when the excavation work will be completed with more facts and figures . I am a Jain and our Granth also tells story of kings and sadhus that runs parallel with the stories of Rama and Krishna . Krishna’s cousin brother Nemi. Who turned to Jain thirthankar AristaNEMINATHJI is one of the many many stories that runs parallel to sanathan dharm . I see more of this as our land’s history than a religion .

I am trying to decipher Indus vally seals and I believe that so far i have deciphered enough seals to publish my research. I found that Lord Indra was called as Mahendra in Indus vally civilization and Surya was called as 'rya' along with surya. I found mentioning of lord rudra, purusha, maharshi bhrugu, dardar muni, queen asiratra, mentioning of kingdom of asiriya, suruastrap. I found inscription talking about Ursa major. The unicorn is actually gav. Indus seals have ni or nu at the end just like in today's gujrati, rajstani or gadhwali. Base language is sanskrit. A lot of influence of Avestan language too ..... Like rain is called as varsha in sanskrit but on some of seals, it is inscribed as Barsha (which is origin of word Barish) which sounds Persian.

One more thing I want to add is, saptrushi is not the word used for asterium Ursa major or Ursa minor during indus vally civilization time, it was Saptrikshi. Rikshi means female bear, we call it as richh today. Saptrushi is later vedic name given to Ursa major asterium. So use of bear to represent Ursa major/minor originates in vedic india, not in Greek mythology. Greeks took this idea from vedic texts and created their mythology.

Interesting that Dr.Nalini Rao mentions kucasthali as Dwaraka. Now, I am a bit sceptical regarding this observation. There are also different accounts or versions of Mahabharata for eg translated by C.Rajagopalchari, which mention kucasthali as a place somewhere in between Dwaraka and Hastinapura, where Shri Krishna halted for an overnight stay when he was on his way to Hastinapura when negotiating for peace. This place kucasthali was apparently a part of the Matsya kingdom. However, I do not claim to be exact knower, but good to know through this video that Dwarka is also known as kucasthali.

One source of funds is having a cut from each & every Hindu temple funds...the funds that belongs to Trust like yours! Indian government have no right to keep that fund. Each and every penny taken by Indian Government has to be paid back to Hindu cause by interest! First thing first each penny should be put aside! Absolutely Right. Purana is derived from Sanskrit word Purna means "complete", Not from Hindi word puraanaa. It is said so because it completes the study of Vedas and Vedanta. It along with Itihaasas and commentaries etc are Fifth Veda. As per Chandogya and Brihadaranyka Upanishad the two most prominent Upanishads. Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan parvat and his footprint are also there on "rocks" of foothill of Mountain. Now many people's will say footprints can be of anyone. But the truth is even a elephants can't have their footprint on the "rock". So it is impossible for a six year old Kid ( I think that was Shri Krishna age during Govardhan Lila because he lived their for only eleven years ) to register his footprints on the "solid rock" useless he lifts something very very heavy. Madam missed one thing. The ancient Tamil literature from the Sangam period also mention Krishna and Krishna was worshipped along with Ganapati, Murugan, Shiva and Devi since ancient times in Tamil lands. Krishna's pastimes are also narrated by the 12 Alvar saints from the ancient Tamil lands too in Nalayira Divya Prabandham.

I don't find muslim comments in this kind of videos, this is their history too, but when someone talk about Turkish fighter Ertugrul ghazi many Indian muslims are keen to know a history of a Turkish fighter who fought for the cause of Islam, but if you talk to any Indonesia, Malaysian muslim about these historical finds in India they get happy, I have experienced it for Many years, infact I talked to them as well, they are muslim but they are very proud of their Hinduism culture. They celebrate ramayan and Mahabharat. Their names are also not Arabic language. Sri Mulyani Indrawati is their finance minister who is muslim, can you find these kind of names for Indian muslims? I think indian muslims are made to forgot their culture and history, one thing they never understand is that culture is not religion, if they follow Indian culture they still be muslims.
