This is Part 3 of our video series covering the air war of the 1956 Suez Crisis, also known as the Second Arab-Israeli War. As Egyptians realized that the Israeli airborne assault on Mitla Pass in Sinai was in fact a much more complex operation, they employed their air force on a campaign of massive airstrikes against Israeli ground troops. The initial Israeli Air Force restraint opened large gaps in air coverage and Egyptians used them well. Day two of the war saw the first aerial victory for Egyptian MiG-15 pilots, the first combat sorties of their MiG-17s and a massive battle between MiG-15s and Israeli Mysteres over Kibrit airbase.
