Hi Jonathan. I'm a 71 year old music lover in the UK who has had various guitars since I was 16, and have 'had a go' every so often over the years without really progressing. I bought a ukulele about 5 years ago and have joined various classes and groups, progressing to a reasonable level, and playing often in public , but really wanted to learn the guitar properly as well. I'm inspired by, and have learned enormously from, your many YT videos, and I think I've learned more in the last 3 days than I have in the 55 intervening years! I now have around 19 ukuleles and 6 guitars, including a cigarbox guitar I built myself. I feel like I just need to tell you how much difference you are making to my playing ability (and my life!). You are awesome. I just wish you had been around in about 1973!!

Brother I couldn't have said it better. Amazingly that kind of bull shit is running rampant throughout the Tube.. I see it all over with no rhyme or reason. Some people just have to try and share their pathetic negative attitude with the world. As if there isn't enough of that type of BS in the world already. And unfortunately I don't see it changing any time soon, if at all....

Why not point out what you like about the video instead of pointing out and dwelling on the number of dislikes? Don't focus on the negative; you will feel better and improve life for all of us.

Jonathon, thank you so much for doing this. I started playing guitar in junior high, when folk music was popular. I learn a few chords, but I never went beyond that - and now - I'm almost 70! Both of my sons are superb guitarists, and they tell me to practice... but I didn't know what to practice. Then along came YOU today! I know what to practice now. You are a MASTER teacher. Nobody ever told me "zero-five-zero-three-zero" before, or how to play a guitar scale, or "heartbeat, heartbeat", or "call and response", or "fat string three." I love it when you refer to the "fat" strings and "skinny strings!" A medical condition keeps me inside most of the time, with not much that I can look forward to. But you have been a game changer today! If I can learn the lesson you taught today, I will be so excited... and I'll be able to play along with my sons when they are here. BTW, your guitars are beautiful. Best Regards, Fred :-) PS - I never learned to use a pick, and in my old age I have a tremor in my right hand - but I'm going to work on it. "Do or not do, there is no "try." ;-)

I have to say, you are a great teacher. I`m a german guy who lives now 9 years in Norway and I play the bluesharp since 3 years. Now I try to learn guitar. I started to built my own cigarbox guitar and than I`d been interessted to learn all this chords and grips. But classic guitar is hard to learn because of this straight rules, I love the blues special from the earlies . The way you teaching it is perfect . No rules, find the best way to feel comfortable, fits perfect to me. I think thats the way all these great blues musicians learns about music. No rules, have fun and enjoy music. Let’s give props to the origin of “call and response.” In the context of Blues, it came from the cotton fields. Also, loved the lesson. Thanks 🎸

Teach my bredren.the whites have a hard time giving credit to the orgin of the blues coming out of the slaves in the cotton fields having the blues over the violent treatment and being treated and classified as animals by the white man. They think that they can hide from the most horrendous treatment of all time ever inflicted on humans.to Die and leave this earth would have been a sweeter death than to live life for years to build this country under these conditions and never to this day be compensated economically like they have done for other groups like the Japanese killed by Americans and the small country of Isreal constantly being taken care of by americans.the Viet cong helped after the war.and many others today while the Black Man is intentionally being over looked.

Years ago I Played Country Joe McDonald been on the bus with Willie back Stage with Waylon and cooked dinner for BB King at my house 😀 and when I was young on stage with Jeffthro Toll in front off 62.000 witch was a surprise not planned and invited on stage for the oncore but since the wreck no music the migraines still while me out. I played my guitar laying down in bed my fingers and I loved it THANKYOU and God Bless you I may be able to enjoy music if I don't stand or try to dance my head will expload my back will go out. My life went from some thing I loved to praying for God to get me out of this pain filled body. Today God gave me a break today. And to hear my voice and feel my fingers hurting after playing was pure joy. THANK YOU and God Bless You it was better than winning he lotto today not hat I ever had.

Just watched my first lesson in its entirety. And of course, played along. A little beyond beginner but nonetheless always fun to go back to the roots. What's great is we end up discovering and doing things for years not knowing what they are until someone like you comes along and tells us and we're so happy we've been on the right track all along. Looking forward to many more lessons. Thanks for the great lesson. Not everyone is a good teacher but you're a natural. Peace & Blessings.

I'm not a natural musician and will never be great, but hopefully if i keep bashing away i'll be able to knock out a couple of tunes reasonably.. keep up the good work, you have a great teaching style, it's much appreciated.

Johnathan I stumbled into your lesson tonight and am amazed at how easy you can teach.I a 65 years old started playing in 1964 and played rhythm guitar in HS. After 4 years in the Navy I went to work for 35 years and the guitars set. Well now I am teaching my self the right way hopefully if the fingers will hold out. As mentioned I learned more tonight watching you then I have jumping around to different teachers on the net for months. Anyway I'll be watching more of your lessons. You make it understandable a Credit to you hobby or profession, Thank you so much Larry

Thank you VERY much for this series. I am starting to relearn the guitar and between this and the D-C-D tricks, I am already feeling that I have made accomplishments. Now don't get me wrong. I am not knocking instructors for having us relentless practice scales and other teaching methods, but with your instructions, I am hearing REAL progress and fast. It makes the process far more encouraging as I toughen up my fingertips and build muscle memory. I am not planning on performing, I am just playing for my own entertainment and possibly as I get better, perhaps at friendly gatherings around the campfire.

good tips here.. For newbies, remember that a guitar that has the action set up well is easier to play solos on. You can also go to a thinner gauge guitar string which makes solos easier also. As a guitar tech, I set up action on guitars all the time for people and they thank me for making it easier to play solos!Have a great day! #guitarsolo #guitartips #guitarlessons

Mr Kehew, I have not seen all the "beginner's guitar" lessons on You Tube, It would drive a chap insane, but of those I have seen, yours are without doubt the best structured and most useful of all the lessons I have tried on-line. Your hair is of a normal length and colour, there are no visible tattoos or piercings, there are no attempts to be a rock n roll dude and you don't show off. You are a great teacher thank you. Just one suggestion could you ring a loud bell every 10 minutes . It should be loud enough to wake a sleeping senior who finds the the combination of computer screen and concentrating on the lesson is guaranteed to send him to sleep. i

I am a 56 year old guy I can play some basic chords although not very smooth ... having watched your tutorial video D C G tricks I felt that I had progressed hugely .. I was having problems getting from one chord to another and my fingers were getting all mixed up ... I love the way you explain everything over and over with an understanding of how alien it can be to novices .. thank you so much !!!! steve .
