Honestly the saloon door does make a lot more sense now that I’ve thought about it. Like you said with smoke (and presumably odor) ventilation. Also the folks walking by can hear all the jaunty piano tunes and know it’s a happening place.

Also if women of ill repute happen to be visible from outside, you can only see head and feet, not the middle, which as we all know, is where the nost scandalous stuff is. (man it feels weird writing this this way but thats a real reason people did this).
