Radio Active was one of if not the best radio shows of the 80's There's not been much on the radio that's comparable to be honest. i think because everyone has come to be accustomed to commercial radio, it's idea would be lost on the youth and middle aged people. My dad had never heard the show and i showed him the Nuclear debate episode. So funny :P Seargent Corpse of her majesty's royal straight jackets

Lost on "middle aged people?" The Radio Active generation ARE middle aged, just like me!

Brilliant! Was always a big Radio Active fan, and loved the theme, but have never heard the whole thing. Brought a big smile to my face 😁

A brilliant joyous cracking piece of music. I remember the Diners Club advert. Probably first time I heard this theme. Then the appallingly brilliant Radio Active cropped up. In this case, 2 + 2 definite 10. Everyone involved, many, many thanks. Absolutely superb.

Should you be interested. BBC Radio 4 Extra do repeat this hopelessly yet absolutely fantastic show. I love it. Trust you do to.

Interesting. I read a lot of forum posts about this track for years while I was trying to find it, and everyone agreed that it was written for an advert for a financial institution of some type, but this is the first mention of Diners Club I've seen, and this seems the most obvious answer, given the title of the track! Thanks!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! For years I have wanted to hear this. Radio Active in its early days played various parts of it, and no for the first time I have heard it in its entirety. I love you.

I still have fond memories of the Radio Active Mass Debate. I forget what the subject was, but the jingle made me tingle... :)

Great tune - I first heard this around 1980 when a DJ on Radio Wales called Mike Flynn had it as his signature tune. Then of course I next heard it on Radio Active.

Thanks for posting this - been searching for it on and off for years, and never found it until now! Have been a massive Radio Active fan since the mid 80s, but have never heard this piece of music all the way through!! Sadly, even though a Radio Active revival has in fact taken place, your suggestion that "they're all still here" is not correct. Geoffrey Perkins died in a traffic accident in 2008 - a huge loss to the world of comedy. (Edit: I should really read what's already been written before jumping in - I now see that someone else has already mentioned Geoffrey Perkins' passing. Apologies - unnecessary duplication.)

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Better than 'Meaningless Songs In Very High Voices' by the Hee Bee Gee Bees, more pulse-racing than Anna Rabies telling her co-host to sod off, more mind-blowing than a Nigel Pry derailed train of thought, and more hip than just the usual pair of jeans, Mike. Can’t remember this tune or programme but remembered the Today Programme c.1970’s in my old work place at Brentwood Essex.

I seem to remember that this tune was written for a television advertisement for a credit card, American Express, I think. It was so popular that the team produced a single which got into the charts.

Various notes about 'Radio Active' that I've read have indicated the advert was for NatWest.

I don't think anyone really knows. The most plausible answer I've seen is that it was written for a Diners Club advert, as that would fit with the title of the track.

Originally used for Diners Club TV commercials, hence the pun in the title and performer.

Never listened to radio active first time round. It was on radio 4 and i was in my early teens and i thought R4, like BBC2, was the 'boring' station.

alan roberts There is the web site www.listentoyoutube.com/ that could help you. I mean, I would never use it and couldn't possibly condone you using it because of copyright issues. I'm just saying it's there. But definitely don't use it if you don't have the permission of the copyright owners.

Without a doubt the most abysmal "comedy" show ever.
