Ok, after reading the series fully for the first time, everyone always talks & praises about the page of superman comforting a suicidal girl but I feel the build up to it makes it 10x times greater. because at first, we only see a guy talking on the phone in the background while superman fight a giant robot and it comes off more like his girlfriend is leaving him & he's trying to convince her not to if anything. THEN the reveal happens and the action just hits SO much harder, I saw the page before reading the book and while it was great by itself the whole set up makes it so much more beautiful.

Absolutely. :) I couldn't agree more -- and frankly, I'm hoping some variation of this appears in Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. Morrison really dialed in an iconic moment with that entire scene.

I REALLY LOVE HOW THE film made lex luthor the one that make the perfect formula serum, he who hated superman so much says one of the perfects lines : a healthy womb.... and a caring family, he at that moment knew not only that the ideal of superman is created by a man with strength but by the core of the people who surround us ,

I think the most important thing from the Jimmy issue is that, because Black Kryptonite Superman is everything regular SUperman isn't he's also able to admit that he's afraid. That for all of his brave face and his cosmic serenity about his own mortality, as much as he tries to be strong and pledge to do as much good as possible with the time he has left, he doesn't want to die. Dying scares him. That's something really poignant about the book that nobody really touches on when analyzing it because they get too lost in the sauce about hopecore. Clark's life is a tragedy. He finally tells Lois the truth but she doesn't believe him because he's been lying to her for so long, so he has to just say "you got me, it was another prank" because otherwise she'll hate him. She doesn't realize the truth until he's minutes from death. Superman can't admit he's scared because Superman is never scared, everyone depends on him for everything else. He can't have the live he wants because he has to fight the neverending battle.

I'm somewhat bummed they didn't include the bizarro of the comic run. I know why they didn't include them, because it would ruin the flow of the film, but I just really appreciate it. not only for zibarro but because it was the issue that made me finally get bizarro. he's not necessarily made to be an evil world superman or a 1 to 1 reverse of clark, but that bizarros are meant to be mad parodies of their person, so they dont have a set logic their only meant to be living mockeries of them (plus the idea of the underverse, the bizzaro world being a living creature and these "humans" are only it's immune system/microorganisms, are just so cool and should be explored more)

I also love Superman Red & Blue very much, because the Superman stories I love most is where the focus is him personally, wether that be inner conflict or him just helping people. That is when Superman works best and when he truly embodies what he stands for

I really like how the movie took a more contemplative win than the more pulpy version of the comic. A point i don't think many people remember with Superman is that his first appearances had him fighting against slum lords and a falsely accused woman being executed. I realized a while ago that this kind of set the tone for the character in that: The wish fulfillment of Superman isn't necessarily the power he has, but the fact that he doesn't have to be afraid to do the right thing.

One thing I never see people mention about Zibarro is how, in some ways, he is the opposite of Superman. Disgusted and miserable with living among those below him, whereas Superman is the opposite, loving the humans below him, and seeking to be like them and live with them.

Honestly that Lex scene at the end cements Superman as a monster in my view. He has the means to solve 90% of the worlds problems with an easily made super serum. Think about it: Lex did a complete 180 after seeing the world how Superman does. Imagine if you dosed the whole planet with that stuff

Hmmmm, maybe, but only if it's an all-star superman or new frontier type film, where it's clear and obvious it meant to be in the sci-fi almost kitch era of the silver age instead of trying to be realistic or with the times (sorta like how batman tas is meant to be in the world of the 1930s gangster era)
@BonsaiM

The only reason I say no is that I've grown tired of Wes Anderson's cinematic style. It's always the same thing and while it was unique at the beginning, now it's simply gone stale for me. Again, this is simply my personal opinion.

To me, All-Star Superman felt like Grant Morrison's response to Alan Moore's cynical take on superheroes.
@EdNorthcott
@EdNorthcott 3 ай бұрын
Ironically,(iirc) Moore said he regretted that his legacy in regards to superheroes was so cynical, particularly as he loved the innocence that fueled them. That's why he offered to take over Liefeld's "Supreme"... a Superman knock-off; and when he did, Moore basically wrote everything he had wanted to do and explore with Superman using that character. It's very Silver Age while also delving into some of Moore's favourite high-concept musings.

I believe I watched the 1st video before the copyright strike, this video feels like deja-vu, not sure how much you rewrote, or just did a new edit from the original writing and voice work. Did you feel personally attacked that your writing/editing wasn't "good enough" to be considered a "substantiality transformative" new work; and rewrite parts of the script you wanted to improve from the 1st video. Or do you feel the first video (edit) was superior to this 2nd video (edit)?

"Aha but He'll die first" The Irony eh? Lex saw like Superman and saw beauty in everything. but Superman Just wants to see like a human. All that godlike power and they say, "Superman wins!" but it's the antagonist who does not see death as the end and is given the gift he wanted. The indifferent clockwork of the universe Will do what It did. He Has a Name and He will always make another Superman We don't actually need and send Him Our way. Get It? El's a narcissistic little prick but at least His Son We can sort of work with. Love, I Am Batman.

I mean, I get you're just doing the cynical internet edgelord troll thing -- ironically on a video that's about stories that represent people rising to their best selves through fictional inspiration -- but still, man, this is pretty low grade.

Superman slapping Lex at the end of the comic always seemed wildly out of character, which is why Lex's realization, & Superman's refuting of Lex's ego (without needing to slap him) leading into the more explicit redemption, worked so well in the movie.

Hope, grief, loss, pride, etc. The people who say that Superman is the most borning hero because he's so strong, havent read or watched a good Superman story--and these videos detail that so eloquently that I tear up just a bit watching them. Warms the heart and gives you hope. Keep up the amazing work, man. Thanks.

We follow him over four issues through the stages of his life and see what it means to be Superman. It came out around the same time as Red Son, and while Red Son rode the gimmicks of Superman as a Russian dictator and the twist ending (the only two things people seem to talk about in regards to that story), Secret Identity focuses more on story and characterization.
