Comedians with depression seem common because irony/sarcasm and turning suffering into humor is pretty common among depressed people. And sometimes they talk about things without irony but people still think they're joking because they say it so casually (since their depression is constant) and they prefer people to laugh than feel bad. That's speaking from experience with friends, anyway, and some experiences shared by people diagnosed with depression + a couple of studies.
