Man i'm glad comments are back but reading these I completely understand why TB disabled them. Edit: Nvm. Now that the vid has been out for a while, the positive comments are outweighing the negative.
@SpiceCh
@SpiceCh 6 жыл бұрын
A handful of them are pretty insensitive so far, but there's a lot of positive ones as well. According to Genna, TB had a harder time skipping past the negative ones than she does, which is why he disabled them and she enabled them again.

TB Disabled them because he couldn't take criticism. Beyond the amount of filler garbage in the comments, there are people who will bring actual criticism. He had a record of being a bit full of himself.

What I liked about TB as a host is that he encouraged folks to break down their opinions and always went into the more critical and technical side himself. His fierce dedication to having accurate topic descriptions (so ppl can skip games/sections they don't find interesting), timestamps, always have videos of the current topic running, not go offtopic for too long, and at least name (yet usually show) all notable upcoming games for the week, specifically made this podcast my favorite. It's the stuff I would find important if I would have to run a podcast, you know? :) In this way he also brought balance to Jesse and Dodger, who are a lot less "strict" when it comes to the above stated stuff. Genna's way of doing things is a lot more like Jesse and Dodger, and to me this podcast now feels a lot more like most other popular gaming podcasts (GB, EZA, GI, ACG, etc). Just having a fun casual chat about what's going on in everybody's life. I prefer podcasts that try to be a bit more like a television show. I know that takes a lot of work (to learn), but that's how this podcast used to feel to me. In my opinion the podcast would benefit greatly from at least having guests that like to get into the nitty gritty of things each week. Guys like Mathas or Incontrol. So yeah, I also believe Genna is a great person and I think it's awesome she picked up the torch from TB, but I really have to get used to this new style.

It was the way to support indie devs... I don't know if Genna simply don't care enough or doesn't know about this or it's maybe too hard for her? This is her choice what to do, but she should do this knowing that it was not just for views...
@AaronDigitalMuppet
@AaronDigitalMuppet 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think its that she doesn't care, or its too hard.. She has a lot of things on her plate now and its probably just something that maybe slipped her mind as a concern. I can't even imagine trying to take control of a machine like The Co-Optional Podcast. Maybe try not see this as Genna failing, but see it as TB just being that damn awesome. There will be growing pains as she figures it out. It's up to us to chime in and give her feedback in a positive way. And now, we have the ability to comment.. Lets just hope she reads them. And finally, yeah.. Indie devs will feel this change.

Hearing his voice at the start is both sad, but also warming to the heart. He lives on in the podcast through the start of the podcast. I miss him and I KNOW you all do too. It's too bad he blocked the comments for so long but I understand why. Still the fact that he blocked comments made it hard for me to simply show my support in any way i could. It's too bad that people are so terrible in the comment section because there are plenty of people who do in fact care, they're just outvoiced by the trolls and asshats.

Also, 2.5D is a game that is set on a 2d plane allowing you the player to only move left and right with very limited up and down like a sidescrolling beat-em-up in the likes of the Arkham Blackgate or double dragon. However, 2.5D uses 3D assets to give off the illusion of space like as I said before, Arkham Blackgate (blackgate just takes it to another stupid level allowing you to go through doors making the map to the game impossible to understand)

I like the introduction of the guest. With TB the show started with some derailment, which is fine. But the introduction of the guest was then postponed to something like 5+ minutes. It felt so awkward when new guests were waiting to be introduced. Edit: Also, yes! Host topics were awesome. Even less awkward silence from guests.

I agree with you, but if you're an entertainer for a living, it would probably be to their benefit if they can roll with derailment as if they were a casual on the show. If you can go along with opening antics like you've known the gang for years, that'd be the better way to introduce yourself, imo.

Dear Hosts, the Gaming Disorder as by the WHO definition only talks about people who progressively neglect their social life and responsibilities due to excessive gaming resulting in negative outcomes like failing a year in school, getting fired from your job or neglecting social relationships which result in some kind of negative impact on your life. The additional requirement for that disorder is that in spite of negative consequences the person isn't capable of changing in such a way to adapt and try to fix the problem. Basically like with any addiction (alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc.) the person needs to shows signs of the loss of control over their life. You can play games as much as you want as long as you keep your life in check. It's the issue of control. The problem here is that why did games get singled out as a disorder and not e.g.: social media like Facebook, KZbin, Instagram and everything else. It's horribly misleading and it's vilifying gaming in general. Obviously media had a field day with it too.
@kideo_h
@kideo_h 6 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is some people really believe that gaming is THE problem when it's necessary not. We ,as an open-minded people that accept new facts, know that gaming and cognitive functions interact in a quite different way compared to other types of activity. In addition, every person experiences gaming in a very different ways and there are small differences that can be interpret very differently when viewed as psychological disorders, like if the gamer can't control himself when playing with others online or if he is addicted to the gambling part of the game and tends to over spend on micro-transaction for example. Or even violent behaviors that the media seems to really focused on can be interpret as something else that is not necessarily 'violence induced by gaming addiction'. So while gaming addiction should be a problem that everyone should learn about more, it's really not really about the games like how media blames fortnite for being too addictive, it's about the what the person experiences when gaming and what behavior is out of normal and can it be treated so the person can live on without playing for 48 hours without eating or dropping out of school because they can't focus on anything but gaming. Should it be singled out? Yes, because gaming is a different thing entirely and you can't broadly diagnose it as 'addiction to gaming' when everyone's experience is different including ones' of the addicts. And specialized clinics is actually a good thing because they'd at least know something about gaming and wouldn't see it as just an addictive behavior like sex or food. But is it the games fault? No it's not and it's not fortnite's fault for being too fun or too violent. It's the person's mental health that caused them to play too much game or whatever the problem is for them gaming.

Concerning the release list; I usually stick around for it, but totally zone out fram the actual content, and just stick by for the goofs of it. So in the words of Elsa; Let it go! P.S. Also, I'm totally game for a return to the old ~3h pod though!

Genna! I think like many I was skeptical of what would happen to the podcast, but I have to say I think you're doing really good work. I've been watching/listening ever since you restarted them, and I feel them getting better every time. There will always be naysayers, and for certain there will be some people that will tune out - but there are some of us who will remain, and others still who will become new fans of the show. So keep them coming, we love you.

Thanks Sky for talking about Trails in the Sky even just a bit. It deserves more attention. Btw, bosses doesn't scale with your level. They only have stat multiplier based on your difficulty. Exp gain is higher when you are lower , and eventually you gain very little experience once you exceeded their level.

Love that Sky is back. Call me odd but I never knew who he was before his first appearance on Cooptional, and yet it became one of my favourite episodes. Seeing him and TB bounce off each other was some of the funniest shit. Oh, and Much love Genna, you are already rocking this so keep it up. The Cooptie peoples love you.

Release list was really just because John liked to look at new games. Think the only reason it stayed so long was because it was his own pet project. If you have to sludge through the mess of game releases without enjoying it, it'd be a pain!

Loving this episode as the hilarious banter is actually why I've been watching this series for over 5 years.. I prefer you discuss games first (as its a "gaming" show, and I dislike news with political tendencies - not these ones) as it directs the overall theme of the discussion to be about gaming and be light-hearted. When you discuss news first, it paints the show as this super serious thingy..which I don't believe it should be..just my two cents.

I started watching this 2 or so years ago, mostly cause TB hosted. I really admired the guy. When he died, I took it hard. I cheered up just a BIT when I heard that the podcast would keep going, and out of curiosity and, well, a feeling like I had to support you guys, I kept watching, and I've gotta say, it'll never be the same, but I sort of love the podcast even more now.

Great show. Especially the supportive atmosphere at the end. I'm just going to take the opportunity of a reopened comment section to respectfully mention that I'd be absolutely delighted to one day see Hammeh of Hammeh - Overwatch (Failcraft) as a guest. Good luck with future episodes, and future content. :)

I really don't like the term "gaming disorder" since it's too vague about the problem and too specific about the cause which invites skewed interpretations by most uninformed people and especially anyone with a bias against gaming. I don't like umbrella terms in general.. the devil is in the details. There is something to addiction.. or anger management issues, but why can't we call it that?
@thewittyusername
@thewittyusername 6 жыл бұрын
exactly. someone having issues around gaming is usually due to something else, and not the direct result of "Video Games". that's like going to therapy for sidewalk cracks avoidance disorder instead of for the obsessive compulsive disorder making you avoid and have anxiety over the cracks in the first place. It just seems like a predatory cash grab on the part of the "therapists". I'm surprised they didn't bring this up in the discussion. I felt like Genna brought it up, then they rambled for a bit without actually saying anything meaningful about the topic.

I mean, isn't it just the same sort of thing as whatever the official term is for gambling addiction? Like, the people who will sit at a slot machine for a whole day, blow their entire savings all chasing that ding.

While it's understandable people are upset that they feel their hobby is under attack and demonized, but also keep this in mind. People that have mental health issues, have a hard enough time getting medical care and support. The most important thing this label actually does, is force insurance companies to cover more treatment options. Yes many ignorant people are using this as click bait, but lots of good can come from this as well.

This is exactly what pisses me off about it, this is just yet another attack on gaming by the conservative uk government (this current gaming disorder bs originated in the uk). Where is television disorder? Fitness disorder? Work disorder? People do all of these things to harmful excess in the same way and in greater numbers than a minority of people do for gaming. Yet it is only gaming that is specifically singled out and stigmatized.

Dang, I liked how the releases was. I did find a couple of obscure and/or niche games that I enjoyed from, admittedly few and far between though. But it's okay, I can look for the games for myself.

I'm honestly amazed how Genna can handle this after TB hosted the show for over four and a half years. There's a lot of things to manage and it must be incredibly difficult. I'm really glad people give honest and positive feedback here, about the "New Releases"-section and other things. The cast is already good right now and it will just become better and better. Good job, Genna!
