With a reputation as a chopper in some circles, the Cold Steel Katanas may not have perfect balance. But it can hack and chop with the best of them....just watch the Cold Steel demo videos. They're real. Using more common terminology for these CS Katanas, I give an in depth review on its construction, materials, quality, and value. Two are present for the review: Cold Steel Warrior Katana and the Dragonfly. The Warrior has near perfect quality levels and was a good buy at $225; the Dragonfly with its ////////////////Nutnfancy Likabiliity Scale: Warrior Series Katana at shown quality levels: 9 out of10, Dragonfly Katana if quality levels correct: 7 out of 10 (lower value)

The student who defended himself did in fact use a katana, and actually severed the intruders hand in one swing, and simultaneously ripped through his chest cavity. The suspect reportedly died on the scene.

matt25675 I know hun....what is amazing is how much gals spend on just make up, fufu smelling shit and lotions for their skin. if she gives you shit about your "collecting" tell her to write down all her expenses in regards to make up, toiletries, hair care, jewelry (past & present), shoes, etc.. then add it all up for the year. now figure out what is perishable (everything BUT jewelry...even shoes wear out.) now, ask her how can she bitch about your Investments when she spends a shit load of coin on perishable items she doesn't need (cuz, you know, she is very attractive without all that shit on. "i keep telling you, honey. you don't need all that crap on. you sell yourself way too short on the looks department.) blah, blah, blah. if she still gives you shit ask her, "when has mascara and lip gloss ever defended a person from physical harm and death?" you would be amazed at her reaction. if she still can't see it cut bait and run like a motherfukkah....

Steven Calhoun gee, thanks hun. I am just speaking the truth. knives, guns, swords, etc., are not only fun but, they protect us when seconds count (and the police are just minutes away.) I don't recall one perp who was thwarted by eyeliner or lip gloss. plus, these items (guns...) appreciate over time. they truly are investments....in lives saved as well as money earned. I am so glad I am a chick who likes dudes....as a dude I would be a monk cuz most gals are just plain crazy. they don't know what they want but, by God, you better know...one day they are alright with something the next you get burned at the stake for the same damn thing. oh, and that little item they were talking about 6 months ago that they talked about for, um 2 seconds, how DARE YOU NOT REMEMBER it and buy the fucking thing for her....oh, you can spend money but, it better be on the shit SHE wants. dudes, GOD Bless y'all. all I ask is remember to put the seat down (cuz nothing sucks more than a seat up AND an unflushed toilet.)..try to keep the dutch ovens to a minimum and when ya make a fucking sammich use A PLATE (paper or otherwise...don't use the damned counter top as your prep surface.) oh, throw trash away...simple shit. ya wanna go hunting, fishing, camping with your buds...go for it. just, know YOU are cleaning the fish, equipment and the vehicles. also, know that I am gonna do the same thang, baby:)

it fucking irks me so bad when people call a katana a "ninja sword" - if you mean a sword for killing said ninjas then yeah otherwise ninjas are Chinese ,katanas are for samurais which are Japanese
@nordicomsystems8841
@nordicomsystems8841 8 жыл бұрын
+STAHP Sign Gaming Ninja used katana, and ninja originated in Japan. Ninja-to swords are a Hollywood thing. I studied ninjutsu for 6 years when I was younger under a former pupil of Stephen Hayes. But a shinobi katana typically had a 23"-24" blade with a 14" tsuka and a shallow 0.5" sori.

Know what sounds pretentious? Purposely butchering the proper pronunciation of a word for "emphasis". If you'd just speak normally instead going Ka-Tan-Uh it sounds just fine. Japanese is an easy language and it's hard to mess up the words when spoken normally.

Never buy a chinese made katana if you are looking for superb quality. Go to Katana Craft and have a Japanese master swordsmith hand make your sword. For about the same price you will get a blade that will slice through anything Cold Steel makes.

+robert morgan you buy a japanese sword if you want a piece of art and something that requires technique and training to use without damaging you buy a chinese made katana usually a monotempered one if you want something to have fun with
@MrDanielWP
@MrDanielWP 8 жыл бұрын
+robert morgan The only thing that matters is the type of steel and quality of the heat treatment. Make a katana-style blade out of S7 or 3V with mono heat treatment and it'll out-last and out-perform a traditional katana. All this talk of traditional katanas practically cutting the world in half is pure superstition and fantasy.
@bmxriderforlife1234
@bmxriderforlife1234 8 жыл бұрын
Daniel Peer 3v might not be a great steel for a katana as it requires a heat treat of 60 hrc or harder to not have terrible wear resistance for a blade edge and you are correct a tamahagane katana isnt as strong as a modern one for the most part but literally every other piece is made to higher standards the tsuka or hilt the disc guard the fittings for the handle as well as the saya or scabbard everything on a real japanese sword is done alot higher end then most reproductions

Hey Nutnfancy, I don't know if anyone's already pointed this out or not but the Dragonfly really doesn't deviate too much from an actual Katana sugata(blade shape) the full thickness at the base with a bo-hi, then transferring to a diamond cross section about a third up the blade and staying as such up until just before the tip where the spine thickens back out to reinforce the tip. It actually is s traditional(loosely because of a couple more minors details that I am to tired to get into since its around 4:17am where I live) style, its called Unokubi Zukuri. Just thought I'd point that out ;)

Exactly! This is a tool that I would use A LOT and pay good money for! Something that I could strap on to the back of my LBE. I can't count how many times I've been out hunting or scouting and ran into situations where something like this would have come in handy. Clearing a path to get that perfect tree. Getting your climber up that tree, removal of small branches. Clearing a shooting lane. Something like this has real potential.

Hi Nutnfancy. What are your thoughts on including a Katana into a BOB. I have seen molle attachments for katanas from CASHanwei, seems cool. I am highly trained in this weapon and want to keep it at my side for defense in a WROL situation. HOWEVER, you were very clear that in a crazy situation "no need to stand out, blend in". So any ideas? I was thinking of attaching the katana to my Tactical vest (5.11) and even "customizing a shoulder holster" style shealth. thanks

Where can you buy these? The traditional one you were showing, with hammering line, I mean.
@randomguy3281
@randomguy3281 9 жыл бұрын
Viesturs Arajs Well to get a true traditional one, you need to get one from Japan. If you spend enough time looking around the forums and talking with people, it is likely to cost over $3,000 for the real deal entry level Japanese Katana. It is a lot more practical to look at non-Japanese made Katanas if you are getting into the hobby. The wavy line you are talking about is called a "hamon", it is from a traditional temper not from the forging. This temper is called a differential temper. A lot of cheap Katanas will have a fake Hamon done with sand paper. A good starting price for a sword with a Hamon is about $300, I suggest the Cheness Kaze Katana. If you are willing to spend more then look into some swords from Hanwei and Dynasty Forge. They are pretty good from the $500 to $1,000 range.

The blade is coated with several layers of a wet clay slurry with a thinner layer at the edge than the sides and spine of the sword, then heated and then quenched in water. The clay slurry provides heat insulation so that only the blade's edge will be hardened with quenching, and also causes the blade to curve due to reduced lattice strain along the spine. This process also creates the distinct swerving line down the sides of the blade called the hamon, which can only be seen after polishing.
