Not all nations picked a side, there was what we called the "third world" who wasn't officially aligned with one of the 2 superpowers. That expression lost its original meaning with time to designate poor developing countries (because that's what most of them were). The Walther PPK gun (mixed with the Luger) was the weapon of choice of James Bond, the most famous cold war western fictional spy.
