I love your first piece. The colors are beautiful, and for being such a beginner piece it’s marvelous. If you don’t like this piece, I can promise you I’d never show you my beginner pieces. Great video.

I only didn't like it as I felt I hadn't designed it myself which is important to me; we are always our own worst critic!

I've simply enjoyed embroidery for the needlework aspect, not giving much thought to its history or how the various stiches have evolved. The samples of wool demonstrated was interesting to me as well. Thank you Sarah for the enlightenment at my age of 71.

I love crewel. I’m self taught thanks to accomplished stitchers such as you and others around the world on You Tube. My greatest challenge is actually finding kits and extra wool. Most come from The UK or Australia and with the pandemic, I think the kits I ordered are coming via homing pigeon. I have to buy the wool on the Internet since we don’t have it available here in Bloomington Indiana. But all these hurdles gave not deterred my love of Jacobean crewel and to try more and more challenging pieces and kits. I’m not confident enough yet to design my own. Thank you Sarah for your videos and all the help you’ve been to for this person in south central Indiana.

Glad you are enjoying this technique Gail despite all the difficulties at the moment! I know from our own orders that things are getting stuck in USPS for very long times but they do seem to be on the move again now. I have a vlog idea in the pipeline for showing how to design a piece of Jacobean inspired crewelwork so keep an eye out for that! Hope everyone is safe in Indiana...

I very much appreciated my time viewing you and your works and, for this, I thank you again...!!! I have subscribed and, though not an embroiderer myself, will follow you to learn more about this work and have a moment to reminisce other afternoons of old...

Thank you for sharing your collection of crewel work Sarah. For me, to attempt stitching many of those designs, is as scary as walking through a graveyard at night. I'm going to give it a try though. Pat-South Padre Island, Texas

Hi Sarah, I dont have many wool colours well except brown. I would like to try it but it will have to be cotton, would any one other than those experts know that I have cheated? I am going through a difficult time and would like to have something to do that could be a practice piece. I have tried some hardanger, not enough experience to complete it at the moment, but it will be there when I am better. Thank Sarah, you are my go to place when I want to keep my mind of my troubles. :)

The Crewel Works Company. The kit is The Glamis Crown, Rose And Thistle. I have found instructions for the Rose, Thistle and Thistle Leaves but no close up photo or instructions for the Rose Bud. I am not very confident with Embroidery. Cross stitch is more familiar to me. Thank you for reading and replying to my message. 😊

Another great video! Are you familiar with the german "kloster stitich" ? It is a vertical couching stich, like Bokara . I have seen it in the old tapestries in the exibitons of the monasteries "Kloster Lüne" and "Kloster Wienhausen".Big and long tapestries with biblical scenery, all with hand died wool in primary colors and very good conserved. They did not show a variety of stiches , just the one klster stitch.Sorry for my english and thank you very much

@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery i am so sorry that I am not able to put a link here for you , klosterstitch is different from Hardanger because is not a counted stitch .If you are curious and have the time,I suggest you go to a search maschine and write klosterstich.de Arriving there, you press on the small angel with the red heart. Some boxes appear and the first one at the high left shows the collection of the Wienhausen Kloster. Its fascinating how simple this technick is and mimics so well the weaved tapisseries, since the background is entirelly embroidered with the wool yarn.Thank you very much for answering me.Best greetings☺

Excuse me for popping in to the conversation, but I was curious about this and went to the site. It is a huge collection of images of this work, many styles, rich colors and as you say, all very simple. My German is not great, but enough to work out that this would have been mostly for furnishings and wall coverings for warmth in drafty homes and buildings? It looks thick and sense like that. Some very beautiful work there! Thank you.
