Lionheart, with ships you can click them to attack an enemy ship and they will always try to keep them in firing line, just i noticed you are pretty bad at managing the whole fleet and you tend to focus on using 1 ship vs 1 enemy ship

Also if possible you want to shoot chain shot from the front or back of the enemies ships to do more overall damage to the rigging and grape shot when along side them

@Saintphoenix86 I've always found that attack order to be very buggy in etw naval battles hence why I never tend to use it in any of my etw campaigns. Also found it often gets your ships out of the wind direction so have always orfered to just keep ships moving and focusing on keeping them in the path of the wind rather than leaving them to it. Empire 2 completely rebalanced damage from ships too so often round shot is better left as the primary fire type over chain or grape which now only works at extremely close distance.

@@xaxas94Yeah, most of them are indie games.😂 But there are also plenty of great games released every year, both big and small. I could never get into ETW. It has great ideas but lacking in execution.

(The following is a letter from the Chamberlain family’s archives) Dearest family: I hope this letter finds you all doing well, as for me I can’t say how well I am doing currently. Shortly after my first letter was sent we found the rest of that pirate fleet in the Caribbean, they had amassed a small fleet in some hope to challenge us. The flagship of their fleet was an old Spanish gallon with two smaller likely converted captured trade ships rounding out this flotilla of guns. Their flagship had as much firepower as our two heaviest ships, and its thick hull designed to carry the weight of Spanish gold meant even though we had them outgunned we would be facing an adamant foe. The battle was further against us at the start as a distant gale had switched the direction of the winds from at our back to supporting those pirate brutes. Their three vessels were bristling with guns, they had cut back their deck railing to fit extra cannons on top of the gallon. These were experienced and seasoned pirates, who were used to facing down merchants, their display of firepower meant scare trade ships into surrendering. However against a fleet of his majesty's navy, such shows of bravado fell flat, our officers were not cowed by ships with extra cannons so clumsily placed on the top decks. The battle began with a mist from the nearby gale coating everyone, so those of us carrying arms had to make sure our powder was kept dry, as the cannons began to bark at our foe. As we began the battle at range it was clear the pirates weren’t even firing half the guns they could bring to bear on us. The reason for this was quickly answered by one of the officers on the deck he reported our foe had far more carronades then cannons. Carronades are barreled cannons that are better for larger shots at closer range, perfect weapons for pirates looking to rush a ship and board it. We played to our advantage at first blazing away with our longer-range cannons. However, the officers seemed to lose interest in a nearly one-sided affair after an hour or two. Some of the men were unhappy at the prospect of getting into the range of those 14-pound carronades just to capture a pirate ship. I think the real reason we closed the range aggressively was because that gallon’s hull caused us to waste a lot of powder. Our cannon fire had raked the deck smashing up a fair number of their cannons and exposed crew, however, that didn’t resolve those protected by that gallon’s hull, so it would come down to boarding. I yelled for my element of marines to ready themselves, but that would turn out to not be necessary. As the men threw their grappling hooks the leader of the pirates aboard the gallon struck their colors. We boarded to ensure they weren’t planning to scuttle their ship as well as to secure her as not only a prize but perhaps a new ship for our fleet. After we took down the flagship the other two quickly also struck their colors, however, there was a defiant group aboard the smallest ship and they scuttled their boat to prevent us from taking her as a prize. Which honestly was the most foolish of things when one considers their prospects. These defiant pirates were the first to meet the gallows being hung from the yard arm of another one of our ships. While the rest of their lot knew it was one of their possible fates for their piracy, most of them were smart enough to know that if they behaved at least they would see the courts. Shortly after we returned to the safe harbor we found out about the Native’s invasion of our colonies, no doubt an effort spurred on by the French, citing that our people were encroaching on their lands. While I do not doubt these claims the way the natives were handling it was a poor showing in my eyes. Instead of bringing it to our government in an attempt to peacefully work things out, they instead raided the borders and declared war. Then again the entire world seems set to dissolve into war, the colonies coming under further attacks, our allies overseas also engaging in battle. This will be a good time to be in his majesty’s navy as I feel the chance to win honor for our house is great. I have a good feeling about the battles ahead as we continue to snuff out the pirates and then likely turn to aid our colonies. Wishing you all the best until we make harbor again, Liam

A few things lion heart; 1) loving the series can't wait to see more 2) you should look into quick lime shot for the cannons 3) it's smarter to wait for an enemy to come to you especially if you have advantage of range so in the situation vs the native Americans let them initiate attack but loving the videos can't wait for more

@Richard-qi9tk quick like is a very late game tech in this mod so I'll be sure to get it but it won't br for a very long time. In the battle against the natives they were set to defend so they'd have never attacked me, I had to advance to them.

I played as the vatican and its been really fun...I decided to become a trading empire because you are situated in a central location with 2 land trade routes with genoa and venice as well as routes for spain, france and the ottoman empire and the indian empires...these make you a lot of money if you get them early and get the extra money form long term trading partners...you also constantly pump out sloops to go to the east indies and africa for sla\/es and pepper...I've managed over a course of 10-15 years in game to create the largest trading empire and navy in the game...I make over 25k a turn with a navy of 100 ships...2 fleets of galleons and pinnance and the rest sloops and brigs trading....I also have 3 full stack armies but high quality and experienced with very good land tech...the only downside is no naval tech unless you conquer venice or attack naples early...however I now make so much money and are on such friendly terms with spain I am going to buy naples in the next turn hopefully theyll trade it for quite a bit of money...its difficult with naples because its a strong city for spain so even with 50k gold they are reluctant to trade it and venice never trades its main city...those cities both have naval admiralties... I am on a crusade to take all of north africa from morroco and islamic confederacy and building up a force to go for the pirates in the carribean to get the sugar plantations they have...it'll make a good base of operations in the americas to attack the netherlands and get the gems and gold mines with plans to attack the thirteen colonies...I purposely didnt trade with the dutch and brits because I want to have someone to attack eventually...I also have plans for india eventually but the americas are first...the holy crusade is almost wrapped up in north africa and then off to there...once I establish my plans there I will focus entirely on 13 colonies and locations of brits like gibraltar...the vatican has so much money right now and can defend itself from the brits and dutch...I love this mod :) p.s. the russians have been in a crazy war with sweden poland and prussia...all 3 of them are constantly attacking russia but russia has so many troops and just pumps them out its a lot of back and forth and sweden even took moscow at one point but was beaten back and now russia has st petersburg and is holding them all at bay...austria is getting slammed by the ottomans in navy the ottomans pretty much owned austria but on land austria did a holy crusade and reclaimed constantinople and held it for almost a decade until finally the ottomans retook it...the ottomans are now at the very doorsteps of venice and vienna...however I have put troops on both of their capitals as a reassurance that if ottomans continue to expand I will cut off trade with them and declare war...they will be utterly destroyed in navy and they know this...ai isn't dumb...they know my troops are there and navy lurking all around so they have just stopped their advances...its a stalemate there for now... The brits conquered scotland and are expanding into the americas fighting indians and failed in an invasion of india...they got rocked in india...the dutch have waged war on new spain and took the coast of brazil, venezuela and columbia but nothing else... The world is ablaze!!! The only bad thing about this mod is the pirates dont go after trading routes which is a bit saddening they just stay in the americas doing there thing there...I don't feel threatened in trade at all by them but france, uk, dutch, sweden, ottomans all have very large navies almost close to mine but I just have more and way more galleons...

Lionheart with the many different units in this mod, i wish that you will use all of them at least once and have a more varried army instead of just the same unit for all of the armies. Still amazing episode and im looking forward to the next.

@unknowguy9642 I'll try some of them although the mod does have a lot of unit bloat, not all are worth getting just for the sake of variety. I'll try to vary my armies as I always do but I don't tend to recruit units that are worse than others just for the sake of it though.

I do believe that yes after thr Scots are under control (does that ever happen?) and brought into the Kingdom, then pursue war on the Pirates in the Carribean. Trade is king, you Indiamen will fill your treasury and enable war in Euroupe! Love this content and keep it coming! 🍻

Vs natives you want defence in depth, overlapping fields of fire and a height advantage so troops can fire over one another. They're going to get into melee eventually especially early on without much tech and fire by rank.

Great mod and nice game play, my only reservation is Scotland being an independent. The enactment of the union between England and Scotland was in 1707, I'm hoping that this will be possible if certain conditions are met when playing as England. Much in the same way the Thirteen Colonies join England in the base game.

In 1691, the settlement of Moose Factory came under attack by native peoples believed to have been spurred on by the French. A hasty militia was thrown together to defend the settlement leading to a fight in the field on the town's outskirts. Though poorly trained British forces were none the less victorious thanks to the technological advantages. Naval battle tip, blast holes in the hole with round shot, then shoot with grape shot. Attack from behind (if anything hurts their moral), I’m pretty sure game accounts for both of these things when doing damage.

I dunno if its the same in the mod, but you should always board fleeing ships even if you don't want to keep them, you get a reward for capturing and "selling" enemy ships instead of just sinking them :D

As a Scottish fan, and historian of Scotland during this period, I have to try and avert a national catastrophe and war of English aggression. I believe in this mod if you have high enough affinity/bribe the Scots you can get them to become a protectorate and then within a few years the mod will simulate a union by offering you to integrate the protectorate into your Empire - I believe there's a similar mechanic with the Thirteen Colonies and with the Knights of St John and Spain.

Heads up that galleon is using carronades hence its lack of damage at range. It is deadly up close will be an excellent boarding ship with grape shot

Hi there (Im actually one of the Devs of this Mod), Just a short question, did you install any new SoundFX as Submods to Empire 2? I made a completly new set of SoundFX just for this Mod, which should be in there via the normal install. Kinda frustrating tbh :D Thanks in advance and thanks for playing our Mod! :)

Beware the Scottish cavalry, because you don't have Square formation yet (and most of your force is milital anyway0. that makes you vulnerable.

I've not played this mod and this is my first exposure to it. I didn't catch what year this starts, but last time I checked, Scotland and England became one in 1707... Still, let's not let history prevent us from enjoying a bit of carnage.

Campaign starts in 1690 hence why Scotland and England are separate, although England is called Great Britain still as the game and mod has no way of dynamically changing your faction name die to which territory you control sadly.

I may not be Drachinifel, but I feel the naval tactics are somewhat ahistorical (as English ships pass going opposite directions in front of the enemy).

I have just waited 28 minuets for Ottoman Empire to take its turn and gave up, I thought this mod that everyone is shouting about cured this age old problem with Empire, its a great mod except for this slow down in turns, has anyone else experienced this slow down with Ottoman Empire, if not is there some solution that I'm missing???.
