His college record has been broken, but at one time, Reich did hold the record for engineering both the biggest comeback in major-college football (Maryland down 31-0 to Miami at the half, won 42-40 in in 1984), and in the NFL.

He didn't do it every play he dropped out to either direction. When I was little I thought Moon did that so you wouldn't know pass from run. Kinda like a pseudo Play Action where you drop back from either direction. Some of the average QBs never varied their hand offs from even Play Action. I'm saying this with zero playing or coaching experience so just take it from a grain of salt. Also, I can't imagine professionals who see game tape and know all the tells on the field. I've seen Warren Sapp say he knew some of the plays of Green Bay by the way Favre walked to the line of scrimmage, also heard Jamal Adams see the demeanor of the O-Line, or even crazier the McAffee/Polumalu C-Gap story.

With God as my witness, I remember watching this game with 2 of my cousins. When it was 35 to 3 with the Oilers ahead I said to them "It's not enough." They looked at me thinking I was nuts. I remembered Houston blowing a 21 to 6 lead in Denver 2 years before, and I based my prediction on that very collapse. This game definitely impacted the future landscape of the NFL, as the Oilers ended up leaving Texas, and a new Houston franchise joined the league. Funny how one post-season game can have such an impact.

The Oilers followed this collapse up with the infamous 1993 season (see “A Football Life: the 93 Oilers”) where Buddy Ryan punched Kevin Gilbride on the sideline, and ending in their last-ever playoff game, a loss to KC after a late Joe Montana game winner. I remember being a little kid and watching this game on an overcast day in Monterey, CA. I spent the night at my friends house and this game was on the next day. We watched it in his room on a tiny black and white, off of the antenna signal only. It was all scrambled in parts but you could still see it…that’s what amazes me about these games. You forget that people are watching all over the country and the world. I love watching these old games uploaded to KZbin. I love seeing the staton breaks. You see an ad for a TV station in a small town in Maine or North Dakota. I like to look up those station’s cities and seeing the population. The smaller the better. I just imagine a family with small children like I was at the time or a older retiree with his wife in the middle of nowhere on a stormy day, coming in off the back porch, stomping the snowy dirt off his shoes to watch the same game off of an old antenna or a satellite signal like how I’m watching in busy California.

@@GORILLA_PIMP Agreed Probably one of the biggest mistake expansion teams ever, alongside the Jaguars. Neither team has a fanbase who gives a damn about them. I wouldn’t miss them if they dissolved one day In fact every team should have a deadline. If you don’t win at least one Super Bowl in your history after so many years (I’d give a team 50, though maybe 100 though if the team has been around before the Super Bowl era), you dissolve the team

@@GORILLA_PIMP Interesting response. But for my deadline, teams that haven’t won a Super Bowl in decades ( for example the Jets and Bears) would be exempt because they do have one title each. You win or already have at least one Super Bowl win, then you’re in the clear

This was the most exciting game I ever had the pleasure of witnessing as it unfolded. I was a huge Bill's fan from Baltimore and we didn't have a team for 4 more years. I remember watching this with my gramps, I was 10 years old wearing my Bill's helmet and Jim Kelly Jersey as halftime came to a close down 35-3, Buffalo fans began leaving the stadium prematurely and they weren't allowed back in once Reich started chipping away at the lead. I was on the edge of my seat throughout that second half. The most unbelievable comeback in the history of the NFL hands down.

I still have my unused ticket for this game!! Courier delivered it the day after. Unbelievable! Had to watch this in a bar that was showing it illegally (back in the blackout days) but there was no sound. Cook gave us his radio so we could listen to the radio broadcast while watching the tv. Bar was Don Cherry's in Waterloo. Place was packed with Bills fans and one lonely Oilers fan. At half-time he was dancing on a chair and when done announced, "Don't worry. If anyone can blow this lead, it's the Oilers." I'll never forget that guy or how he said it.

I remember watching this game live and started watching it at halftime right around the time the Oilers had a 32 point lead on the Bills. I still remember my father telling me that the Bills could comeback and win as long they can get some stops and start scoring since they do a no huddle offense. I laughed because I said there's no way they're gonna comeback from a lead like that, even if they score, it would only be a matter of time before the Oilers scored again and than they only had 2 quarters to do it. So basically I thought it was impossible. But little did I know, my father was right. Lol This was the greatest comeback I ever witnessed and i'll never forget it. To be able to witness history that day and these were some good times.
