Flutie was a much better choice at QB than Rob Johnson. D.F. injected energy and potency in the Bills Offense that Johnson could never do. Johnson was just paid more based off of hype that I felt that he never backed up but gave him the nod to start over Flutie because of it.
@robkeel1002 жыл бұрын
Yes he was robbed!! I’m still shocked they benched him before the playoffs. At least Wade said years later that if Flutie had played they probably would’ve won vs the Titans. Anyways, with the successes of Brees, Murray, Baker and other smaller QB’s, there’s no doubt in my mind that in todays NFL Flutie would be drafted number one overall. He played pretty in run first and balanced offenses. Imagine if a team would’ve totally committed to him and designed an offense around his strengths. Oh well.

If anyone was well placed to break the Bills super bowl curse it was Flutie. He was electric in Buffalo and tons of non Bills fans like myself started watching Bills games and rooting for them. Everybody wanted to see Flutie prove every NFL expert wrong. I remember a few college QBs I loved like Frost out of Nebraska that got the same treatment from the NFL over there size. I would guess that was part of the reason Tebow became so popular for a time. But the greedy Bills front office couldn't accept the Johnson deal they made for a fortune was a bust and had to start Johnson because he was too expensive to sit. Which was the front offices own fault for signing him for that much. Sadly for Bills fans/team the front office got exactly what they deserved. At least Flutie got that drop kick on his way out in New England

Flutie was a gimmick. He was a runner. Maybe ahead of his time. But at that time. Qbs made long passes, stayed in the pocket. The game was different. Today in 2024, qbs run and get to throw the ball out of bounds. Roughing the passer is a big deal. Flutie was a CFL qb at best and Bills took him for his run abilities.
