One fun way to build this might be to pick some of the best tribal effects from tons of different tribes along with a bunch of blink effects, so depending on what you draw & what the situation demands, you’re constantly switching what tribe all your creatures are to change the abilities they all get. In other words, you’d be radically changing the nature of your board from turn to turn (or even within a turn).

The design of this card is great. It opens up so many interesting build paths and diversifies options for the Sliver tribe as well. My issue with your take is that you jump to a lot of value judgments of what the game should be and how archetypes or decks should be built. There's no such thing as "so-and-so tribe has enough goodies" - we commander players want as many options as possible and this card does this in several ways that you did not mention in your video: 1. It works as a slightly adjusted arcane adaptation from the command zone (does not affect most token generators but offsets this slightly by being a synergistic token generator itself) - this lends itself to a variety of changeling / "tribal-tribal" builds. 2. Being WUBRG colour identity, it is an interesting candidate for multicolour tribal with an activated ability subtheme (things like bloom tender / faeburrow elder + creature untappers or Morophon lines) - WUBRG/multicolour tribal itself has a reasonable amount of interesting support and build packages.

I am viewing this as an Arcane Adaptation in the CZ to create a synergy deck run by a small subset of cards (e.g. a deck that wants to use Leaf-Kin Druid can turn all ancillary creatures into Druids, a card like Sygg River Guide could benefit from having a big beater become a merfolk, a Rooftop Storm Zombie deck, among other ideas.) It also enables 5 colors of tribes that struggle to get support outside their "normal" colors, it can turn all the non-tribal creatures into that specific creature type to help keep synergy going (e.g. 5 color Yuriko support)

I think you're focussing too much on Slivers. If you took the text off that said "all slivers" and just left the text that says "all non token creatures," it would still affect all non-token slivers. Basically that first line of text about slivers only matters for sliver tokens. So it really doesn't reward you that much for playing a sliver deck over a non sliver deck. This has some really cool ways you can build it. For example, I imagine that you can make every single creature in the deck have a different creature type. Why does that druid only break sliver decks? It will win with seven storm crows. So play a bunch of payoff creatures then put a bunch of blink or flicker spells in your deck so that you can reset your commander based on what payoff you want active. That sounds really cool, and it has nothing to do with slivers. I think the bigger problem with this deck is that it encourages goodstuff creatures to go along with the payoffs, so I don't disagree with you completely about the power of this commander, but the sliver aspect is a red herring that only matters for sliver tokens.

For example, you could play merfolk and choose goblins as the tribe so that you could use all the tribal stuff from the goblins into merfolk. You don't even need to go into 5 colors, just play a 2 or 3 color deck. I believe that elves/zombies would be a broken combination. Imagine having down Rooftop Storm and Noxious Ghoul. Every elf costs 0 and gives -1/-1 to your opponents' creatures. Add Maskwood Nexus as a backup plan and you are ready to go.

I think this might be a little bit of an overreaction. Its an interesting card that allows a solved boring tribe to branch out in literally any direction. Sure there will be people who make absolutely disgusting decks with it, but that is no different than any other powerful commander that gets printed. A lot of people will steer clear of it because a decent mana base for a five color deck costs as much as a car, not to mention the precon itself was way overpriced if you didn't preorder.
@mrpinguimninja Жыл бұрын
Tbh, sliver decks can often feel repetitive due to the inherent nature of the tribe, Rukarumel at least gives you an option to take a sliver deck somewhere else, which would be hard, again, due to the inherent nature of a tribal deck and of slivers in particular. Also, sorry but there's no sliver commander that's reasonably affordable (at the very least in the country where i live) so having a couple of options at least makes me able to brew a few different deck ideas. Complaining about backup commanders in a precon also just doesn't make sense.
@Dragon_Fyre Жыл бұрын
I am surprised. I would have thought of all people, this channel would love a new sliver commander that allows so many unique types of builds in all directions. Slivers by their nature, are quite unimaginative decks (as you said, you just add all the best ones and some staples; If anything, there are too many good slivers and you have to make tough decisions on which slivers not to include) so this really opens up the options to take slivers in all new directions. I don’t see it being too OP as a Janky commander like this really stands out as ‘kill it and shutdown what the deck does’.

@@edhdeckbuilding I think you're evaluating this very inaccurately. Korvold and Atraxa are top-tier in terms of power because they provide extremely powerful and immediate effects on resolution (you would expect to draw ~4-5 cards minimum with each). Furthermore, they are also simultaneously very easy combo engines which make you pop off. Muldrotha is quite strong but a tier below as she doesn't have the combo-engine win-con feature built in. Rukamurel on the other hand is practically unplayable at the same poewr level. It's a WUBRG cost which does absolutely nothing on resolution unless you already have some type of board state. It has very low P/T for its cost and its activation requires tapping and the super powerful things it can do (eg. the World Tree) take so much set up and mana that they can't really compare to what already exists in the format.

Huge overreaction imo. I'm not a personal fan of 5 color or sliver decks personally (in that I probably wouldn't build one for myself) but this seems like far and away the most interesting 5-color sliver option available. All the other ones are just "play all the good slivers and I'll make them better" and there's literally no other direction to take them in. But I can think of several directions you can take this one in (many of which you mentioned yourself): -Name slivers and make other good creatures into slivers -Name another good tribe and have them help out your slivers -Build a generic sliver deck but throw in one or two other really powerful tribal payoffs in -Put lots of tribal payoffs of various tribes in there and wait until you draw one to name a creature type -You could still build around a somewhat janky tribe. Not something like Pegasus's or crabs that have practically no support, but something with moderate support that still might not have enough decent cards to fill out their own deck or don't have their own dedicated commander (oozes, shamans, etc.). Agree that 5C commanders are a bit boring and that there are a lot of sliver commanders already but this one actually seems interesting and can give you a few directions to go in without necessarily being generic good stuff. Which still count for whatever creature type you choose. Read the card carefully. It is not a sliver commander, it just says the word. Yes, most people will make it a sliver deck because they read it like you did. That is clearly the intended way to play this commander, and arguably stronger as well. It's an Arcane Adaptation in the command zone that discourages using tokens other than the one made with the ability on the commander. Just because slivers are mentioned on the card doesn't make that the best synergy for it. Some examples: Rebels can suddenly pull any appropriate cost creature out of your deck (Mercenaries as well, but they are generally worse due to pulling lower, rather than higher cost creatures). This includes synergistic creatures like Biomancer's Familiar and Zirda, to get more expensive things for cheaper. I will be updating my Zirda Rebels deck to have Rukarumel as the commander because of how powerful this can be. Allies have several effects that care about more allies entering the battlefield, which the token will be. Choosing Zombies lets you cast any creature for free with Rooftop Storm. Dinosaurs have several support creatures that aren't dinosaurs, so you can let them have the buffs your dinosaurs are getting.

I find it absolutely amazing how Slivers are a tribe that has 7 commanders, yet the deck will always play the exact same way every time. All of them being 5 colors is definitely the biggest factor, since they all allow you to play any and all of the best Slivers ever made. If there were Sliver commanders that were 2 color, or even mono colored, then they'd be more interesting because people would be more likely to play some of the less utilized Slivers. Heck, that might even be a somewhat interesting deck idea. Play a 2 color or mono colored Sliver deck. Finding the appropriate commander could be an interesting challenge since there are no Legendary SLivers that aren't less than 5 colors. Maybe a Mono-Green Sliver deck with Yisan the Wanderer Bard, since he could tutor up your Slivers and act as the tool box for the deck, getting the Sliver abilities you need. Or maybe a Golgari Sliver deck with Gyome as the commander. Gyome loves it when you play creatures, and Slivers love to swarm the field with creatures

Your examples sound way worse than just running any of the actual good sliver commanders tbh. I think there are quite a few builds for her that are better off not running any slivers at all. The format doesn't "need" any new commander ever again anyway so I don't think that's much of an argument either. They gonna print new stuff and if even a single player builds it and enjoys it and it's not super oppressive, than the format is better with it than without in my opinion.

I think you are highly overrating this card. This is so much weaker than getting cascades off of your slivers. You also have to play a bunch of completely useless cards to make it work. Like sure, you can have all these cool knight synergies or whatever, but your commander costs WUBRG. If someone kills your commander, you have a bunch of useless tribal cards that you could draw. Slivers by themselves are plenty powerful enough, they don't need help from a second tribe. This also isn't even a sliver card, both in the sense that it itself doesn't benefit off of your slivers, and the only thing it does is make 1/1 slivers, which the queen is 100x better at. This card is just kind of bad. Really bad. It belongs in the 99 of a tribal tribal deck and that's it.

I think a lot of people are being blinded by the fact that this card has sliver in the card text. It would be almost intentical if it said “name a creature type, non token creature you control are the chosen type, the same is true for creature cards you own and etc etc” Yes, you can do “Sliver + any tribe”- but really, this commander is saying “combine your two favourite tribes” Imagine filling your deck with mostly elves and adding some of the awesome zombie support as well. You cast the commander, name zombie, and BAMB, you have elf ball reanimator chaos. This isn’t a sliver commander at all. It’s a “two tribe” commander

@connorhamilton5707 Жыл бұрын
It's two different conditions that you need to meet at least one of to satisfy the effect. "And" is used to combine the conditions because it's essentially two very similar static abilities in one (Slivers you control are the chosen creature type in addition to their other types and nontoken creatures you control are the chosen creature type in addition to their other types). It's worded like this so that the sliver tokens she creates still benefit from her ability. Other than her token, or the other very rare sliver tokens, she doesn't particularly care about slivers at all and just benefits whatever creatures you already have.

Honestly building a commander like this excites me. Because you can now build a sliver deck with none of the big giant slivers in it. But it is capable of both, which I think is cool.

I don't see this card being played as much as the other 5c slivers. Problem I see is that you can turn off all non-sliver buffs/benefits just by removing the commander. I always think slivers are like cancer cells, where you need to remove them all to fully deal with them. Anything left would still be an issue.

Yeah, I feel like you missed the "nontoken creatures" part. It just takes a tribal deck and makes the 20% of creatures you want but arent the right type into that type. So yes you can put esper sentinel in your elf deck. This is like only 5% better as a sliver commander because the tokens it makes stay the right type after it dies in that case. But otherwise, it's exactly as good for knights or himans or elves as slivers.

I don't have any issue with 5 color commanders, because I like to make decks around some (like my 5 color Goblin deck with Korona the false god) but I do agree that they've been going way to ham with them in the last few sets. Also this commander will be very strong with Hivestone, because it will make all your tokens slivers, this making them the creature type you chose as well. Since it exists if it's cheap I'll probably pick it up to make a janky "tribal tribal" deck with Hivestone and Helm of the Host as the key cards, and a bunch of Tribal buffs from different tribes mashed together. It's a cool card, but I agree they should have taken it into a color combo of like 3 colors or something instead of WUBRG.
@johanandersson8252 Жыл бұрын
Do you think Rukarumel would be better if she was M-🔵
@mave6602 Жыл бұрын
Nah For Gilt-leaf Archdruid I wouldn't use that as the head of a Sliver deck but an Elf tribal deck. Blue now allows you to play intruders alarm which is insane with mana dorks like elves who easily make 3+ mana and then tap the commander to make a Sliver Elf, untap every creature and go like that forever. Next combo will be Wirewood Symbiot and BG Elf decks already use that with Conspiracy to go for infinit mana and infinit tap effects of all the different elves. Another reason to name elf even though most creatures are already elves would be Skyshroud Poacher. The worst part about poacher you can get any creature out of your deck which is either one of the off tribe cards (like Wirewood Symbiot, Gilt-Leaf Archdruid, Scarblade Elite, Ohabi Caleria or Greatbow Doyen) or a random good creature that happens to synergies with elves or even worse... Spark Double or one of two Sakashima. You can even get Ratadrabik at that point and sacrifice your commander to change to Druid or Archer. But the clones would allow you to switch or add another tribe too. It is worth noting that the tribes mentioned already are a lot among elves like many elf archers or elf druids arround. Only Sliver I can imagine making the cut for the deck trying to abuse Archdruid would be Hatchery Sliver because the Sliver token exception would let the replicate tokens count for Archdruid and the other way arround naming sliver and then replicate e.g. lanowar elf should be insane. Which is also what I expect from this new sliver commander people just putting random cards in the deck because they synergies with a couple of slivers. Like giving Replicate 0 to Ornithopter. Or using Basal Sliver with Reassambling Skeleton to get infinit trigers of Lavabelly Sliver, Dormant Sliver, Regal Sliver or Harmonic Sliver.
@STS-qi1qy Жыл бұрын
Eh, I get where you're coming from but if anything she's less of an issue than the existing popular five color sliver commanders. Yes it means you can tack on another 'good stuff' tribe or say sliver and include random good creatures. But that's still going to water down the synergy that slivers rely upon. So you'll get new combinations and interesting interactions but less raw stacking power. I think that's a solid trade. Did we 'need' this, no certainly not, but as the backup commander in a sliver deck (and we knew there'd be a backup of some sort) I think she's a solid design.
@josephotterby9871 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure i agree with the take here. This commander does do some unique things, but the idea of "slap a few off-tribe elements into a well supported tribe to gain power" isn't going to be the best bet over using an actual tribe member to be the payoff in your command zone. His Haakon example, (for example) misses that haakon doesn't himself become a sliver if you're using the commander to make your slivers a knight. He therefore misses out on all those sweet, sweet sliver synergies, and really isn't any better off than any number of black enchantments that do similar things, like a phyrexian reclamation, or a tortured existence. Basically, if you really want off-tribe synergies to be slapped into an existing tribe, there's usually off-tribe options already available, and using your commander to unlock those things seems like a lot of extra work over simply putting those options in. I think that the way to build this commander is going to be as follows - You're going to need to start with an on-tribe base with good tribal synergies, (such as elves, or zombies) drop the commander once you have that base set up, and finish with off-tribe finishers. You won't really be able to go the other way around due to the commander's somewhat high mana cost. (i.e. using her to make your kobolds a dragon won't have the same effect as actually dropping a dragon, for example) Whether that's better, more on theme, or more in the spirit of commander is than just going straight tribal is up for debate i guess, but it does enable a couple tribes that don't necessarily have strong synergy bases, or another way to put some interesting stuff in Elfball deck #493.

i gave a few suggestions for this commander. not all of them. certainly being able to cast your slivers from your graveyard in a sliver deck is really handy.
@josephotterby9871 Жыл бұрын
@@edhdeckbuilding I agree that that kind of stuff is indeed really handy, but i find it a little tougher to think that people will gravitate towards going too far outside the sliver box when the box is so good in the first place. People tend to take the path of least resistance, and slivers are pretty straightforward as-is, and i think people doing the amount of build-around needed here to make it shine more than say the hivelord may be few and far between. I do think this commander will shine brighter with certain non-sliver decks though. I saw the "ally" tribe mentioned, and really think this could be a good one there, as most ally creatures REALLY like other allies, but the tribe has neither the commander, nor the ground-level support to really shine. Stuff the deck with 25-30-ish "spell on a stick" creatures to turn into allies, 20-25ish allies to trigger, and the commander to make them mesh? not bad at all IMO.
