I always thought Daring Do looked like that because it was how Rainbow Dash imagined her. She first appeared in bookform after all. Rainbow was pretending to be a book's main protagonist basically, so she looked like her in her head! ... But then she appears in person and, uh, yea, it's all out of the window I guess. I still think that was the initial idea, though.

That was the original Idea, but this show is for little Kids, so when Doring Do showed up in Person She had to be recognicable for them. The imaginated Version had to be used to ensure that, same as with Quibble Pants Mane. At first it was just Cosplay, but if the intended Audience can't recognice him in later Episodes he can't be used again, so he had to keep the Mane.

That makes sense (and is probably the reason she does look that way) but Daring Do's design in Read It And Weep isn't just a figment of Rainbow Dash's imagination, we actually see her depicted like that on the cover of the book in the same episode.

I really had no idea there was this much lore about Daring Do. I can only imagine by the end of all of this, you looked like Charlie Day from that one episode of Always Sunny, trying to connect the dots with sticky notes, red thread, and approximately 2 hours of sleep over the course of 48 hours.

Hi hello, I majored in art history+archeology and am moving on to specialize in Meso art/archeology...Quetzalcoatl is the feathered serpent deity and although he served many roles in Mesoamerican society, he is also known as the god of knowledge, books, and writing (as well the god of the morning and evening star (symbol of death)). The name is derived from the Nahuatl word quetzalli which means 'tail feather of the quetzal bird.' There are many stories about Quetzalcoatl and the deity is usually depicted with quetzal feathers or with serpent imagery in early artwork or codexes. Super fascinating stuff! Anyways, great video . I have always wanted to know more about Daring Do's lore, this was so well researched!

I've always been interested in the concept of Daring Do and her books. its a shame that they didn't do much with her outside of trying to push Rainbow Dash's character or whatever-i would have loved to read the actual books (I have the three real books, havent touched them in a while but i remember enjoying them) also love how sci twi fits so well with your voice and emotions lol

8:02 its actually "quetzalcoatl"! i mainly know this because of a old animated musical show that had a feathered snake like character in it that has the same name. googles definition: Quetzalcoatl (/ˌkɛtsəlkoʊˈætəl/) is a deity in Aztec culture and literature. Among the Aztecs, it was related to wind, Venus, Sun, merchants, arts, crafts, knowledge, and learning. It was also the patron god of the Aztec priesthood.

I always found it so weird how many references to real life properties Daring Do is tied to, yet she has less screen time than Big Mac or the cake family. I personally always got this feeling that they wanted to do so much more with D.D using her maybe as some sort of 1-2 times per season world expansion character, taking the either the whole mane 6 or parts of them into new parts of Equestria the viewers hadn't seen yet. But then someone decided the keep the shows scope more narrow and rarely take the cast outside the nearby areas of Ponyville. Or whoever was writing the script for D.D related episodes was just a mad H.P & Indy & Aztec fan and made some fanfic.

I always love videos discussing lore I haven't put much thought into. I would love a video like this on Flim and Flam. Personally, it really annoys me that they were in the right in their first episode and are still treated as bad guys. They had an amazing machine that made cider on par with the Apple family, then Granny LIED in front of everyone. She literally lied in front of a crowd to make the competition seem worse, and they never punished her for that? That is literally worse than anything Flim and Flam did in that episode. Plus, the part where Aj steals their cider and says that it "had" to be made of apple family apples with no proof that they stole anything. Aj's family doesn't have a complete monopoly on all apples. Then the episode ends with them making bad cider and getting punished, even though it was just a bad batch, and the machine can make cider just as good as the apple family. They never tricked anyone throughout the entire episode. They even make sure to only show up AFTER the Apples sell all their cider and are out. To put it plainly, they were the good guys, while the Apples spent the entire episode using dirty business tactics and lying through their teeth.

16:08 The "Dark Tower" is a Cosmic Keystone Laylines Crossing HUB [can not be destroyed without also terminating the whole Realm]. . The purpose of the rings was to reroute one of the Layline´s power flowing to/from the Dark Tower into the Basin (without creating a "sink" or another "destination" for this energy to flow out, it gets stuck & becomes raw heat in the whole area). . The dark magical enchantments placed on each of the rings made them indestructible, but after were combined & the "process" started, each piece became vulnerable to normal damage. . The early removal of the last ring caused the EPIC SPELL in progress to lose Focus (now pulling energies in random directions, instead of only specifically from the Dark Tower), causing the building to collapse & disintegrate from the vibrations/resonant_waves. -> Once Dash & Doo shattered the bottom ring, the flows altered by the magic stopped & would slowly return themselves back to normal eventually (hundreds of days, not hundreds of years).
