Bret was the reason I watched wrestling as a kid. He was so good at making a match look real and good. He just made you believe (even though it was all obviously made up). I just wish he never got injured by Goldberg. Imagine how much more he could have given to the industry. Legend.

I was a child in the early to mid 90's when Brett was at his peak. But, he was my dads favorite wrestler at the time so i have many fond memories from that era. Brett Hart was truly the cream of the Crop in the center of that ring. He was completely underappreciated and disrespected for almost 15 years because of the Montreal Screwjob. Im so glad his legacy has been recognized all these years later. His documentary was excellent too. Easily one of my all time favorites to ever be released by WWE. The best there is, best there was, Best there ever will be... This was another phenomenal video brother. It lived up to the excellence of execution standard.

Easily the best. NWO, Bret v Austin, Kane v Undertaker, Mankind, Screwjob, Hall and Nash, Sid, heel Shawn and the list goes on. It was super intense. Every year after we had cheap gimmicks, cheesy promos and the evolution into the circus. They even started to turn the ring slowly into the trampoline that it is now, after 97. 98 was still great but the rot had started. DX and the Rock were super overrated with cheap heat and cheesy promos/gimmicks. Mankind got a sock and Kane was no longer scary.WCW slowly descended into farce after 97. 96 and 97 was the peak of professional wrestling.

@@toddsleezer3580 Austin's persona fueled his in ring style which made it easy to overlook his ability. Some of my favorite matches are indeed Bret vs Austin because they were opposites from attitude to in ring styles. Their match at WM13 is incredible and totally overshadowed the main event, which was an Undertaker match at that. I remember watching it live and half paying attention to the title match because their brawl was so good.

@@toddsleezer3580 Stone Cold was actually brilliant in the ring, the neck injury did him in though, but he worked around it by going more brawler and it worked... he still had some technical skill though mixed in from time to time as well... Dynamite Kid was actually really good too and is often overlooked for some reason sometimes, and Bret Hart was the most reliable best at his in ring work... if you watched him overtime he adapted to each opponent and even the Goldberg match was brilliant until that kick to the head... as for skills, Owen Hart had promo and all round he was more athletic, the weirdest part is when i start looking back at Bret Hart's punches he actually showed a lot of athleticism at times with how he pulled off that stomp even when in mid air to make sure the timing was there... also Bret Hart did have the best match adaptability... also glad someone here realized that Eddie Guerrero and Owen Hart were both technical wrestlers, though Owen Hart was a technical wrestler with some high flying ability mixed in, similar to Eddie Guerrero... also shows that past wrestlers there was a lot less high flying so having just one or two high flying moves would sometimes have you put in that role even... Shawn Michaels was not so much a technical wrestler or even a high flyer, but he could do both... Shawn was really good at his finish pop though... only other comparison would be Randy Orton and DDP in terms of how that thing just pops into a match anytime anywhere...
@aoisora1445

@@erikurizita6702 exactly, all the showboating distracts people from Michaels actual skill, but in terms of being able to really do anything if his opponents did not sell he would have been in trouble, but fortunately everyone was professional... Bret Hart also spent some time in Japan, where they tend to be more rough with people... and the dungeon also taught some real wrestling, so that they could do some real moves mixed in as well...

@Turd Ferguson The presumed plan according to Bret, was Hogan vs Bret at Summer Slam 93, which Hogan was still out of his prime, since it was after WrestleMania 9. I do think Bret would have been able to pull it off for WrestleMania X, and it won't just be the match itself, but the anticipation for Hogan vs Bret, which would bring in the fans, since Hogan was a big draw. Hogan won the PWI wrestler of the year for 1994, and he re-invigorated a losing WCW in becoming competition to the WWF as well. It would be fitting for passing on the torch appropriately to Bret cleanly.

Love what you said about Bret's promo skills. It's true. From the time he kicked off his feud with Owen, he started delivering solid promos. Sure, he wasn't Austin, or Flair, or The Rock, but he was effective, like you said. What's more, he was believable. You could buy into the idea that he was actually speaking his mind, unlike the scripted pap that they deliver nowadays. I'd put the angry, heelish promo from RAW in early '97 after getting screwed out of the title ("FRUSTRATED ISN'T THE GOD DAMN WORD FOR IT!" - in front of the old blue cage) up there as one of the greatest promos of all time.

I was 7 when I watched Bret v Austin with my dad, he had backed Austin, and I went with the Hitman. I remember the turn and genuinely not knowing how to feel and looking at my dad as if to ask how should I be feeling right now. Great stuff.

Lmao I still remember how during that whole 97 run, I always rooted for Bret and always took his side. Even when he was clearly heeling and my friends were turning on him and siding with Stone Cold, my Hitman loyalty NEVER wavered lol

I just discovered your channel and watched this docu start to finish in one go. Thank you for a respectful, informative, well-researched and extremely interesting look at my all-time favourite wrestler! We didn't have access to WCW where I live and so I had absolutely no idea about Bret's involvement there after leaving WWE. I had assumed that had been the end for him. This was just so, so interesting. Thank you!

Thanks for this documentary. Bret was and still is my favorite wrestler who has provided memorable matches, some of which I've seen live. In my meeting him many times, he's proven to be a warm, genuine person who sincerely appreciates his fans. I remember seeing Bret after WM 13. He had this pleading look in his eyes as he squeezed my hand. I'd wondered if he was trying to tell me something but couldn't. His heel turn on the following night was probably just that--IMO he looked regretful. To me, the name Bret Hart is synonymous with legend.

Absolutely great work on the anthology of the career of Bret "The Hitman" Hart! Absolutely 7 out of 5 stars! In this modern era of wrestling, Wrestling Bios, you are leaving a very positive mark on the perception and identity of wrestling with quality work. This is absolutely excellent. . i feel in the long run Bret Hart was the right, as we are seeing now, where the direction of wrestling needs to be. Bret was my favorite wrestler growing up and you see Bret's style influenced Jericho, Benoit, Edge, Lance Storm, CM Punk and Even The Rock! . As for the WrestleMania 26 match, I think it was great within the context of the time. According to STW and other sources Bret Hart did have a Lloyds of London payout and legit concussion syndrome (which Bret and Lance Storm confirmed) which I feel WWE handled the whole situation with kid gloves. . You went All In on this bio which is why I think it was so great!
