I have a 2005, great engine. I got lucky and found one for 500$ from an old man that kept it super clean, very low hours for the year. He only used it for his tender to go back and forth to his main Boat on moaring. Took the cover off and all the gaskets were brand new, no rot anywhere, always stored indoors. It gets my little 10ft tin vhull around at 12mph with 2 people plus gear.

I picked up the same motor with the fuel tank and line for 300, still need to change the impeller and the throttle cable do to the cable sticking.

If it's not peeing water, its most likely the water pump (impeller). If you replace the impeller and you're still not getting anything, you probably have a clog somewhere.

Just got one of these for free with another outboard. My shift lever is stuck in forward... any advice? Thanks for posting this and hopefully thus motor serves you well!

hmmm, i would try taking off the lower unit to see if the shift lever is siezed, or the low unit is siezed. If you take off the lower, and you can shift normally, you probably have some seized gears in the lower unit. This was filmed almost a year ago and the motor has been running strong. It did die on me a couple times, but i added stabilizer to the fuel, and the issue seems to have been resolved. Good luck with yours!

It’s a common issue with that engine. The gear shift shaft seizes in the bushes as they get compressed due to the aluminium corroding. To get to it you need to take off the powerhead and pan before you can get the shaft out. Take out the bushes and clean out the corrosion before rebuilding from there using a marine grease to lube it. Some people ream out the bushes but I find cleaning the aluminium is enough although I end up doing this job every few years. Crap design !

Awesome video, im about to buy a 5 HP honda outboard. The seller is trying to figure out a way to get the flush screw to actually come off. Its frozen/ jammed. . . Any tips on this?

@williamm.3612 a really big flathead screwdriver. Maybe check home depot? Also some penatrating oil might help

@@OffTheHookFishing I suggested buying some dustoff - and freezing the screw to hopefully retract the metal from the thread. Otherwise i think going to have to drill out/ dremel the thing out. . ..

Where did you get the fuel line from the tank to the motor and the connector

The fuel line came with the tank if i remember correctly. The connector i got from boats.net I think.

Hi. Thank you so much for the helpful video! I learned a lot while following your video to fix a same model. An issue that I didn't find answer yet is when I pumped fuel into the motor, the fuel will spill out of a hole on top of the carb. Have you ever experienced this? Do I need to get a new carb in this case? Thank you very much!

I actually had this issue recently. To fix it, I tightened one of the carb adjustment screws. I don't think I knew about it when making this video, but it should be a copper screw near the top of the carb.
