The “For Demacia” story seems to draw heavy parallels between Lux with Morgana, and Garen with Kayle. My favorite tidbit about the original lore of Baron Nashor and the OG summoner rift was that "Baron Nashor" was not an understood entity, it existed and it was named, but no one knew exactly what it looked like. The only surviving description of it was a purple monster with several eyes. The thing is, as the Rift was chosen to host the battles of the League on the OG lore, the summoners had to deal with this creature, and it turned out it was very very easy to deal with said monster, all they did was simply recruit him. Make up a monster that would fit the description, and to this very day, Jax is still a pickable champion and the world is none the wiser.

I would honestly love to see DoomBots coming back. There are lots of newer champs that would be pretty cool to try that gamemode with. (The best one is Sylas. Stealing the broken ults of the DoomBots sounds fun!) But even just some type of dungeon crawler, or hack and slash style gamemode would be nice. Especially if we could play all of the champs on that mode (unlike with the Odyssey or the Star Guardian map, where you just had a limited pool of champs).

I remember one of the primary reasons I started playing League years and years ago was because of the Touhou reference. I started around the time Wriggle's Lantern was still a thing and she's still my main after almost a decade. It's been amazing to see her development over time. Just to let you guys know how "deep" Touhou is actually ingrained in LoL: At 5:56 when Lux's pre-release abilities are on screen, her R is called Malice Cannon. In Touhou 8, you have the choice to play as two specific pairings of playable characters at once (if you choose to). Marisa Kirisame, the character that Lux is/was based off of, paired up Alice Margatroid, a fellow witch. They had a unique "feature" where Alice's laser beam would linger on-screen a bit after switching to Marisa. Thus, you could spam the Switch-character button to deal damage with both character's attacks at the same time, something you couldn't really do with most pairings nearly as effectively. It was far-and-away one of the fastest ways to deal consistent damage in the game, eating through boss healthbars far faster than intended. Touhou players dubbed this "feature" the Malice Cannon, combining "Alice" with Marisa's "M" just like their shots. Plus it just sounds cool. And Lux almost inherited this as her R. Interestingly, Lux's current R, Final Spark, is verbatim one of Marisa's current canonical strongest attacks. What goes around comes around. There are of course other references, such as the video-mentioned Spell Thief Lux skin and Youmuu's Ghostblade.

I thought I'd mention that the Touhou character Marisa Kirisame was a huge kleptomaniac, and her favourite thing to steal was spells/spellbooks (hence Spellthief Lux). As someone who was playing when Lux was released I got the impression she was always liked despite the weird release issues (I was so excited for the stealth w). Two reasons not listed here for her early popularity - she is Garen's sister, Garen was very popular at the time and it rubbed off on Lux, and she was the first humanoid female champion that was not obsurdly busty (Kayle was still fully armored so she wasn't thought of that way), and this change resonated with the community.

Her build path made her a semi-tanky q spam bot making her feel like a worse Ryze. Not to mention that old splash art making her look like a dollar store Mystique. While her ult is a bit too strong imo new Eve is a proper assassin.

The most shocking to me is the creator/original designer of Lux was a Japanese. This is why the Anime/Weeb culture was connected for her for ex. Star guradian, Academia skins etc.

You've missed a few things Shurelia has mentioned and told me personally. But I go into the specifics. Either way, nice overview. Lots of tiny details most people don't remember. She was originally designed to be the Ken to Morgana's Ryu. Exploring the idea of small tweaks to creating a yin/yang champion concept. She had invisibility in her W and lots of other crazy stuff in testing. I've been playing since early beta and know Shurelia and Guinsoo and more. Interviewed a lot of them over the years, lots of great (and horrendous) stories over the years. Shurelia did love the special Lux dance in her Star Guardian skin which has some inside jokes.

I've played Lux for 7 years and I have to say, you REALLY outdid yourself with this video. There is nothing I can think of that you didn't cover and you were right on point with why Lux is so popular and loved by her fanbase. She is bubbly and comforting in personality, her damage and gameplay are justified by her having tons of counterplay, and she is so rewarding to play as you learn how to predict player movement via her skill shots. I commend the effort you put into this video! You just earned a new subscriber.

Lux is just an "honest". She's all skillshots so you feel awesome succeeding as her, and you never feel cheated when fighting her. Even her personality actively keeps me from tilting "mistakes only prove you're trying"

Willy Wodka You are more than right about that. Lux scales with the stupidity of her opponents. She is a dumb low skill capped champ. How do I know that? I play her. I’ve played her a decent amount, and that was how I climbed plat faster than any champion in season 9. And for that reason I hate her. Isn’t it pretty ironic? Me talking about a champ I hate yet I play her? It’s because she’s dumb and creates an illusion that you’re a good player cause you can consistently do well with her. Now don’t get me wrong, any champion is viable enough to scale and do ridiculous dmg. But the way her ult is set up, the q stunning potentially 2 while her shield possibly given to everyone on the team along with the e with ridiculous range. That stacks up for some stupid dmg, stupid poke and stupid plays. I’ve scoffed every time I land ult and killed some one. It’s ridiculous. Doesn’t matter if the lux player is shit or great, having any other forms of cc on the team the lux is on is just a good bye for u. But yes I do agree with your point and id like to add something to it as well. Lux scales with the stupidity of her opponents and she scales unforgivingly with the players skill cap.
