When did their quality (like with the Macallan 18) go downhill?

Great review, Mark, very informative and interesting. One comment, though. You mention that until 2018 no bottle had been sold for more than £100.000, but on the 15th of November 2010, a bottle of Macallan, a 1.5 lt Lalique decanter called Cire Purdue was sold for $460,000 at an auction at Sotheby´s in New York, and on 18th January 2014, a 6 lt bottle of Macallan in a Lalique Imperial Decanter called "Constantine" was sold for $628.205 at an auction at Sotheby´s in Hong Kong, both sales establishing world records. Cheers!

So 2024 should be a BIG tear for Macallan

100 year old single malt anyone? Come on, they MUST have that up their sleeves...

Great video. I might have missed it, but did Macallan ever operate its own malting floor? Was it ever peated? If so, when did they close it?

Really interesting potted history, I’m still at a loss as to why Macallan is so sought after globally. The actual whisky is high quality, but no more so than some of it’s local neighbours in Speyside. The new distillery is a must visit, and is a wonder to behold.
