6:15 I love that they referenced this scene in Xenoblade 3 with Taion holding the giant rock in the exact same way. I mean tbh it is one of the top iconic Xenogears scenes.

"Anonelbe" makes sense if you consider that it means uplifting humanity back to their pre crash state and "inheriting" the status of their precursors. Mankind is no longer just a subject of DEUS, but takes its rightful place as a spacefaring civilisation even above DEUS. This somewhat mirrors the insane beliefs of the originator of the term who claimed their people were descended from an advanced civilization in atlantis. The Goliath might also be a reference to the Ghibli movie "Castle in the sky", where a giant flying ship called Goliath appears, with similar vertical propellers on long rods. It resembles the Giganto from "future boy conan" in general shape more closely though. The "adi" at the end of "sufradi" makes me think of something norse. As for the Kefeinzel, according to Perfect Works it has 2 sister ships called "Zankretenzel" and "Bruscke". Bruscke is a proper German name, but Zankretenzel doesn't ring a bell or has any meaning. The first part "zank" means something like "feud" in German. Overall, the names of these ships bring something martial to mind, like old fashioned synonyms for struggle or battle.

This is actually really helpful, especially the anonelbe stuff - that one completely stumped me

@@TJTheEmperor I forgot to mention, "Erbe" also means "inheritor" not just "inheritance". It seems to be used in the game both as a concept but also to refer to a single person. As such, Fei is "the inheritor (of the ancestors)". The term might be something like a Xenogears version of Mah'Di (deliverer of the Fremen, a role) similar to how the Contact is basically the Kwisach Haderach (an inherent trait making the person special). So not necessarily the same thing, but incidentally so (as in, the Contact might turn into the Anonelbe, but it's not a requirement). As said, the concept seems about mankind reclaiming its birthright in the stars rather than just spare parts for DEUS, so "Anonelbe" is not as arbitrary a term as it might seem.

17:40 I believe "Sufradi" is a reference to the DNA/chemical mixture used to create Rico, something that you don't find out until much later in the game when looking at catalog numbers. I had forgotten about the whole zodiac signs for some of the Gears thing, and I think I know what you're driving at with "Aphel Aura," the terminology of this game is just beautiful. Great video as always, loving going through this while we're doing our playthrough! Serendipitous timing in the best way.

Holyshit! The amount of references you've found are ridiculous! I'm loving it! I still haven't finished but I can say I'm LOVING it and you're doing the lord's work! Thank you, voice from internet video I may never meet in real life.

The Gazel Ministry television ball is a reference to the film Twelve Monkeys by Terry Gilliam. Another movie reference is Rico's choker, which comes from Wedlock starring Rutger Hauer.

16:49 To clear this up for anyone wondering bc it isn't immediately as obvious as some of the other transliterations, Kelvena was how Honeywood chose to transliterate her name from Japanese, which is kerubina (Cherubina is another good transliteration and would've been way more accurate to the reference of course).

Heard somewhere that Hammer was named after one of the devs? Hamasaka, guy who created his design and personality. Something about a nickname of Hamasaka's around the office being "Hamaa"? idk if these kinds of references are being included in this list or not.

2:22 German speaker here. Regarding Kefeinzel you're right in that Einzel means Single, however Kef isn't really a word at all. The use of drugs like marihuana is often referred to as "kiffen", but Kef doesn't mean anything. Then again it might be a misspelling. Like Anonelbe in the game is a misspelling of Ahnenerbe.

Thank you for this. I studied German in school but I’m by no means fluent, so your insight is appreciated

@@TJTheEmperor No problem at all. Your video was still very interesting and even a lot of German references flew over my head. I had no idea that Hecht was the name of WW2 submarines for example.

I might have one for you. The bombing of Kislev I believe I read somewhere was supposed to mirror the bombing of Baghdad in the early 90s Gulf War and takes it's visual cues from that.

I’ve seen a bit of that footage, and I do think they’re similar - you may be on to something there

So many classic anime Takahashi, Tanaka and the others loved that I'll probably never make the time to see. Not before I retire anyway. These side by side comparisons are great to see though. Makes me like my favorite scenes even more, knowing there was a whole other world behind them.

The Zodiac naming schemes are kind of interesting when you consider their planet wouldn't have them, but Lost Jerusalem(I think thats the Xenogears word for earth) would have. Its a nice connection to their origins.

Best I could describe Xenogears would be Armored Trooper VOTOMS by way of G Gundam, and every bit as badass as implied.

The Bernoulli effect (actually principle) is applied when the air running under a wing and over it have different speeds (intentionally produced by the shape of the wing), that results in a difference of pressure such that the pressure under the wing pushes it upwards because it is higher than the pressure over it. It basically is the principle behind most things that glide (planes, birds, frisbees...), to be honest it's just there to sound sciency, but it's actually such a fundamental thing for aeronautics that it's kind of dumb.

The word "Sufradi" sounds similar to the name of the alien race from Macross, The "Zentradi", which was used in the American version of Robotech. So I wonder if its a bit of a dubism? Also I just finished up Zeta Gundam, and got the HGUC Qubeley revive kit. I was going to text my friend That I got the Vierge model kit and text a pic of the Qubeley.

So the name of Sufradi is スファルディwhich is a reference to the Sfardic Jews, as to what this means... no idea.
