The Owen Hart story gets a lot worse. Owen didn't want to do the stunt, but he'd already rejected 2 story lines which would have made him and his family very uncomfortable and felt that he needed to do what he was told this time. They'd done the stunt several times before, but Vince wasn't happy with how long it took for Owen to unclip himself from the harness and so he went with one that was easier to release. As a result, the buckle failed and dropped Owen way too early.
@kellijones64816 ай бұрын
The whole tragedy could’ve been prevented. Apparently, Owen had previously been using a similar rig that Sting used in WCW to repel from the rafters but as you said, McMahon didn’t like how long it took for Owen to unclip himself from the harness. So they hired a guy named Bobby Talbert, a rigger who lied about his credentials by saying he worked in Hollywood assisting with various stunts and had even worked with Sting in WCW. None of that was true. Talbert suggested using a quick release snap shackle, a much more flimsy piece of equipment, and when word got back to the original stunt coordinator that a quick release shackle was being used for Owen’s entrance, the coordinator was so aghast that he offered to lower his pay rate and pleaded for the stunt to be cancelled, which unfortunately fell on deaf ears. It seemed like McMahon (and to an extent Vince Russo) had a number of sources around him that were dropping strong hints about not doing such a dangerous stunt, but Vince ignored them because in his mind, he thought a silly comedic spot and a cheap pop from the crowd was worth risking the life of another human being.

Vince McMahon the Roman Polanski and Weinstein of Wrestling.
@AgeOfWrestling6 ай бұрын
I sadly have to agree
@filmbuff27776 ай бұрын
I'm not defending what Polanski did, however, he was psychologically traumatised after losing his family in the Holocaust, & seeing his pregnant wife & friends brutally slaughtered. The judge on his case wanted to make himself famous by giving him a ridiculously long sentence when he should have given a sentence based on his psychological state (psychiatrists recommended this). While what he did was terrible, it is in no where near as bad as the Holocaust or the Manson crimes, which people don't seem bothered by when saying he should not have survived either of those events. It is also problematic when the same people that want his head on a stick conveniently have nothing to say about somebody like Charles "Tex" Watson, one of the people that denied Sharon Tate the right to have her child, was in fact allowed to became a father to four children while he was in prison for murder. He has also taken shots at Sharon & never showed remorse. He was actually whining to the parole board one time in front of Doris Tate (Sharon's mother), about how he didn't get to see his children. Again, I am not defending what Polanski did, but I think there are mitigating factors into his situation. The way it was handled is not so black & white. And being able to admire his films is also not the same thing as praising what he actually did, which is what some people claim. The "separate the artist from the art" thing may be harder for McMahon because of how vile his on screen character was. Regardless of what people like Polanski or Weinstein did, & I'm not justifying them, but what they did was not on a movie set, or directly affected a film itself (like the Twilight Zone movie). I can still watch Polanski's best films, & films Weinstein had involvement with (Gangs of New York is one of my favourites), but like I said, McMahon is different because of what his character did on screen is like what he was doing behind the scenes. And while we are talking about despicable people, frankly, John Landis is even WORSE than Polanski or Weinstein. On the Twilight Zone movie, he hired two young children illegally to avoid child labor laws, & had his lead actor (Vic Morrow) carry them through waist deep water while trying to avoid a helicopter. He ordered this helicopter to keep going lower while pyrotechnics kept going off. One of the blasts destroyed the tail rotor & it crashed on Morrow & the kids, killing them instantly. He also used Morrow's funeral to promote the movie, & there is footage of him smiling on his way to court. He got off lightly compared to Polanski (who is limited to where he can travel & is unable to pay respects to Sharon & their unborn child at their grave), or Weinstein (who is currently in prison).

I need to vent about this because I feel I see every wrestling content creator misinterpret the commentary surrounding Owen Hart's death. The outrage of them continuing the show, while justified, is only a sexy red herring for the real crime and outrage that the incident deserves. The WWF refused to pay extra money for an actual professional and safety measures to appropriately perform for the stunt in the time where they were making more money than they had in an entire decade. When the the guy who was responsible for Stings stunts saw that they were using his assistant on a lower budget, he specifically asked to be brought in on a smaller budget just so the stunt would be performed safely, a call that was never returned. Added to that, Vince McMahon lashing out at a reporter for calling out the lack of safety measures in performing the stunt is despicable. He and Bruce Prichard constantly parade this narrative that it was an accident when somebody could reasonably look at this and call it negligence. The WWF then countersued Martha Hart so they would not pay damages by bringing the case to Connecticut. While continuing the show is a terrible look, it can be explained by the lack of a precedent at the time.

Justice for Ashley. Absolutely disgusting what happened to her before and at the Tour for the Troops. Those guilty need to be found and punished, named and shamed! RIP Ashley.

That wasn't Owen Hart's blood on the mat. It came from the blood bath segment on Sunday night heat when the Hardy boys got drenched.

This is the video we've been waiting for 🙌 Thank you for this

The part with Owen’s blood on the mat could have actually been from a brood blood bath which took place on Heat before the PPV. The same stain is there on the mat during the first match of Over the Edge 99.

Well blood is often used in certain rituals. Blood from the hart family though? Even better *in terms* of rituals..not trying to sound like a madman. I know a few things about the occult..

You see it in the clip. It's not Owen's. The smear is from Sunday Night Heat.

@@CaptFalcon725 well I suppose you guys can debate whether it was his blood or not, but *as far as rituals go,* blood is definitely apart of it. I doubt you guys ever seen the video when Kim Kardash was gifted *a piece of hair that belonged to Marilyn Monroe,* & the first thing she bought up was using it in a ritualistic manner. That’s why I said *blood from the hart* family is more than enough to complete a ritual.

3:11 - that is NOT owen's blood... few days before this ppv took place, the hardy's were wrestling the brood and were covered in fake blood, matt leaned on the ring with bloody hand and left that mark....

At this point I don't know if there's anything I wouldn't believe about Vince. The guy is a total ghoul.

Apparently that was not Owen's blood on the apron but from The Brood's blood bath earlier in the night. Still messed all the way up.

Calling it 'grape' or S.A. instead of rape or sexual assault is insulting to the people who have suffered from either crime. If you're so worried about KZbin demonetizing you for these videos, then maybe you shouldn't make them.

3:09 That is not Owen's blood, it is fake blood that was used in a fight where The Hardy Boyz participated in the Sunday Night Heat show which took place before Over The Edge started, more specifically that "blood" was marked after that Matt Hardy rested his arm in the ring so no, that is not Owen Hart's blood.

The only one I disagree with on this list is Bret Hart, Bret screwed Bret, We all know he was selfish, weather he had issues with HBK or not, not dropping the title in Canada was a stupid excuse and I agree with the direction Vince & Co took and I think alot of other people will agree, Bret screwed Bret, the $400k a year champion.& BTW the fans in the Arena didn't really know what had happened so saying they were all disgraced is wrong. I know I was at SS97
