I just re-watched Conan the Barbarian recently and it is still a good movie that holds up. It came along at the perfect time when Arnold was trying to break into movies, as he was the perfect actor for the role. I remember as a kid watching him on the tonight show and telling Carson that he was growing his hair longer for the role of Conan. I was a comic book guy, so I thought a Conan movie was awesome. It's too bad the sequel just didn't have the same feel to it, nor the same quality. The other thing that comes to mind when watching Conan, or any of those older films, and looking at the pictures of Sandahl Bergman training, is that I miss the days when women could be considered sexy without having implants or other surgeries. I wish we could get back to that.

Damn Carlos, well done ! this was more comprehensive than I envisioned . Crom approved ! I had no idea Arnold was so involved in the kung fu /martial arts for the making of this film. Figured it was just sword and horseback training. He dropped weight to 220~ and still looked bigger than life 😏😁💪 What a titan. Well if this is the path this new series is taking , just seems logical that Sly should be amongst the next action star to be featured. Very curious on his training regime for the first Rambo's 💀👊

That is exactly what i will be covering...much has been said about Rocky 3 and his ripped physique for Rambo, but I plan to show and detail everything from the very first Rocky movie. I have found, that these stars literally immersed themselves into the role, living and eating and training like boxers, or warriors, etc.

@@GoldenEraBookworm Fantastic ! That's worth diving into. Most of us know how low Sly's BF% was during the Rocky films and how Dolph lundgren ended up breaking his rib during the boxing scene matches. But that's just the tip. No doubt there's more gems to uncover. But the conditioning he had for Rambo was 👌😎

The director of Conan, John Milius, requested Schwarzenegger to change his training: Milius wanted a physique that looked like a pit-fighter, not a bodybuilder. The 2nd Conan film had a different director, it was lightweight pg stuff, and Schwarzenegger had more of a bodybuilder physique in it.

Arnold didn't come down from 240lbs (ripped) to 210lbs. Arnold came into and competed in Australia at a lighted than usual 225lbs (with some sources indicating he was lighter than this). So probably came down about 10-15lbs, but was of course much smoother.

Nice work, as always! A thorough search for photos and information. In Conan the barbarian he had to reduce his physique in size and increase his body fat on the recommendation of Milius. In Conan the destroyer he did exactly the opposite, for the sequel (lower quality and more suited to a younger audience). In this sequel it was bigger and much more defined. In the two Terminators it was exactly the opposite, not by indication of the director, who was always the same, but for the time. 1984 -1990/1. For Terminator he was still on steroids to prepare for the roles, for Terminator 2 he was either on TRT or very low dosages of steroids. The physicist in the opening scene of the arrival in the present is clearly smaller in Terminator 2.
@caza7282 жыл бұрын
How much do you think he weighed in Commando and Eraser? I know it was said that the cast in Predator had become ill. So I’m guessing Arnold was in the 210-220 range.
@davideterminator752 жыл бұрын
@@caza728 In Predator, he had two different body types. When shooting scenes with the other actors he is very defined and quite muscular, less heavy anyway than in Conan the Destroyer, Terminator, Red Sonya and Raw Deal, where in my opinion he has the best physique. Then in the scenes where he fights with the Predator and is alone he seems less defined and smaller. In Predator I think his weight ranged from 210 to 200 pounds. In Eraser he was definitely out of shape as well as when in Batman I play mr. Freeze. I believe them 200 -205 lbs.
@caza7282 жыл бұрын
@@davideterminator75 And in Commando, he would’ve been in the same size and shape as The Terminator?
@davideterminator752 жыл бұрын
@@caza728 He was a little lighter in Commando, you can see when he's in the rowboat, his back and chest are smaller than in the scene where he appears naked at the beginning of The Terminator. At least 10 pounds lighter I'd say.

@counterbalancelife43052 жыл бұрын
He did not stop using steroids for movies. Just watch any of his movies of the 80's. In Commando and Conan the Destroyer he was big and ripped. Terminator and Raw Deal he was big and bulked. He didn't look close to his typical 70's off cycle look until the 90's movies when he would have went down to a TRT level. When Arnold was truly off, his chest deflates, his thighs go, but his biceps and calves linger. I think it's unlikely, after 25 years of cycling drugs, that his normal hormone function would ever return. Arnold always tells the story he wants people to believe. The one the masses may fall for that makes him look even better than he is. Joe Weider would have showed how that works with all the bs in the muscle magazines. I'm not complaining. I'm glad he used for the movies. He made bigger than life characters and was well paid for any health risks he took. Conan sounds like something I'll put on the blue ray player tonight. "Let me tell you of the days of high dosages, er, I mean, Adventure!"

9:10 ok what you have to understand here is the broadsword he’s referring to is not a historical sword weighing at allegedly 11 pounds. I’ve heard the Conan sword is more like 8 pounds but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was heavier. Actual European swords are much lighter and actually more or less around the weight of a katana. Broadsword is more of a general term for European medieval swords which I’ve heard is a modern term

Ask John Millius
@robertlehnert41482 жыл бұрын
Director Milus, perhaps too inspired by the Franzeta book covers, wanted the hyperbolic weapons portrayed in those paintings. Jodi Sampson, a knifemaker, followed orders too literally, created sword-shaped-objects, topping 10 pounds, GROUND (not forged, Sampson is a stock removal craftsman) out of the then in-fashion knife steel, 154CM, which is a bad choice for a sword, as it is way too brittle when tempered, or too soft when left annealed. Sampson could of delivered thinner, lighter, faster in action sword-props out of regular high-carbon steel and much less cost. As it was, at anything but extreme close-up, the actors used aluminum prop stand in for safety (especially when hitting the blood bags) or even, in far off shots, rubber blades.
