The beginning high notes of this song are played with a guitar pick ... one guitar plays the chords in the background... the other picks the notes. Mustaine plays this live all by himself using harmonic by tapping over the chords he strums... but you need a 24 fret guitar to do this. I don't have one. This song is a lot of fun to play especially the verse part. I also see Mustaine play this slightly different than i do during that part, but he sings over it so.... the less he moves his hand the better off he is. Which is why he plays it differently... same notes.... just different frets/strings.

You do NOT need a 24 fret guitar. You can still tap the harmonics, you just don't have the frets to indicate where exactly to tap, so you have to figure that out.

@@metalbryan101 3:30. I listened to the track and it sounds like dave is hitting 2 fret/6th string to open E as you said. However I cant get a similar sound as you when you say 2 fret power chord on after the speed/alternate picking. It sounds like you should be hitting the 5th fret of the 6th string

Thanks Man. Good Lesson. Damn you analyzed the hell out of that song. Subtle things like the moving the palm muting towards the neck during the first verse only, but not the second. I doubt Dave could teach this song that well. Also, nice tone man...that sounds awesome. Thanks Again and Take Care.

halfway between a D# and an E? How weird. I wonder if that is really how they tune or if they just pitch shifted it for the record.
@MegaThrasher95
@MegaThrasher95 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of bands used to tune that way. Megadeth did it for their first two records. Def Leppard did that. So did Pantera. Machine Head does something similar.

@AtacamaHumanoid

@@TheMegadeth350 but is it actually tuned or pitch-shifted in the studio? What are they tuned to live? I know Flemming Rasmussen pitch-shifted Metallica's Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets albums to something bizarre that they didn't tune to live.
@TheMegadeth350
@TheMegadeth350 3 жыл бұрын
Johnny Namechanger opinions are divided. Some people says that the pitch is shifted due to cheap recording stuff but I don’t think so. In my opinion they tuned the guitars a little bit lower. Of course they never used this tuning live.
@AtacamaHumanoid
@AtacamaHumanoid 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMegadeth350 Tuning to a quarter tone just seems like a lot of work and doesn't make a lot of sense for the singer if the band isn't doing it live, too. I'm pretty sure all these examples were done in the studio just because these tricks are easy to do and producers might do it just to correct something that's bugging them about the mix.

The riff at 21.39: I've seen Dave play the riff totally differently. Instead of those E/Bflat power chords, he's was upstroking quickly on the open top E and B strings, then putting his ring finger across the 3rd fret of the B, G and D strings to get the B flat, then going straight to the bottom E power chord. Until i saw him do that, I used to play it pretty much like you. :)

You play the hammer-on (in the verse riff) differently each time in your tutorial. You play the first hammer-on ascending, then you play it descending. Good job, though, & thanks for the tutorial. I have a tab book with selected songs from "Peace Sells..." & "So Far So Good...," but "the Conjuring" isn't in the book, nor is "My Last Words," which you also did a tutorial for.

The harmonics i believe are just an octave, tapped, so even if you didn’t have a 24 fret guitar (which i know you do now), you could just tap the octave of the chords, like how they picked it instead of tap harmonics on the record, just tap where he picks the notes and your good to go
