I don't think it did. She revealed it to the President, who stood by her through the whole ordeal. She told him in an informal setting, without the fear that he would spill the facts to anyone else. And as she specifically forbade him from sharing the facts after she told him absolutely counts. She is a great person by all measures.

I kind of wish they didn't reveal whether the rumor was true or not. The whole point of Joan Allen's character's position was that it was nobody's business and that the questions about it would not be asked of a man so they shouldn't be asked of a woman. Her revealing the truth made it all moot, even if she only said it to one person.

I love this film, so much. The cinematography and the performances-- just perfect. But it is so heavy handed in its political bias that it's almost laughable. I mean, when someone brings up liberal hollywood films, The Contender is probably the most obvious out of the bunch. With that said, I'm neither republican nor democrat, nor anything political actually. I'm open minded and try to understand. I can just imagine conservatives watching this for the first time though, probably wasn't fun.
