No technical project is completely useless. Sure, there might be an easier way to do things, but that doesn't mean that everyone wants to do it that way. Besides, sometimes Minecraft's community comes up with a way of playing that makes it the best way to do the thing. And, if nothing else, it's a project that teaches you things that make you a better designer for the next project. Case in point, Stromne's fox-based emerald farm. He gave up on designing it until Ilmango needed a source of emeralds for his skyblock series. So now we get to enjoy the possibility of a really inefficient emerald farm that was originally a "why not?" idea that had to overcome the designer's resistance to building something that was "obviously" useless. Thanks for this design. It's not useless, it's a configurable farm which can give you copper aged to any desired level in an entirely automatic manner. For those of us who would rather put down our copper and come back to have it exactly the way we want it with no more manual input required, it's excellent.

I agree with your point, however it's actually just easier to do this with an axe. As it stands, this machine is useless for it's intended function. It doesn't mean it's not an interesting thing to build to help better understand various aspects of redstone for building something actually useful.

This machine isn't useless, it's time efficient. If you wait ages for the copper to fully oxidize, it takes ages to farm it, but if you wax and harvest it immediately, it becomes a lot faster.
@SyRose901
@SyRose901 8 ай бұрын
The time efficiency loses itself when you realize you can just store fully oxidized copper blocks and then scrape it away right when you use it. For an absolutely massive amount of them(like hundreds of shulker boxes), I can see your point, though.

Make it go to fully oxidized copper (just another item in the dropper), and you have something like Pixlriff’s “David” copper ager. I would say this is probably better than his design. It’s harder to get the copper in, but it doesn’t suffer as much from the possibility of miscounting state (it is still possible copper could age twice in two ticks, which the observer would miss), but it can’t weather on the way there. You also get the items back, which is nicer.
@jazziiRed
@jazziiRed Жыл бұрын
You are correct, you can add another item in the dropper to configure it for another level of oxidation. In fact, that's what I have half the full design set as, but I forgot to show that in the video. Also, I wasn't aware Pixlriffs made a copper ager. Gonna have to go check that out!
@SamNGUYEN-cg9uf
@SamNGUYEN-cg9uf Жыл бұрын
I agree with this (no offense to Pixlriff) as this design do automatically waxed the copper at the stage you wanted and also break the copper without losing any for you too, even though you'll have to manually place the coppers.

Redstone shenanigans aside, this was some marvelous bit of storytelling and cinematography! That little montage at the end feels like it came from a professional editor... It really delivers on the slowness of the whole copper-placing ordeal, and how tranquil the -oxidization- oxidation site is. In the fast paced environment of youfube, you don't see a lot of people taking their time to demonstrate, well, time. I love that yt is pointing me out to those young, starting channel, although I'm pretty sure you have experience in the domain of video making.

This machine is useless, but it doesn't need one because it's also a work of art. Reminds me of a scene in an old movie I watched where a guy makes an over engineered machine just to make perfect fried eggs in the morning, the scene consists of the camera just following that egg as it makes it's way through all of the unnecessary and janky hand rigged machinary and the whole thing is pretty beautiful to watch.

Why do you added a delay for the pistons to push the oxidized copper towards the tnt when it explode? You can just add a redstone torch one block diagonally below one of the bottom piston and then run a signal to the rest of the pistons and make them into smart pistons. Also, for your midi you made, you don't need a redstone dust on top of the top dispenser, just have the observer directly powers it.
@SamNGUYEN-cg9uf
@SamNGUYEN-cg9uf Жыл бұрын
Sometimes it better to went through your redstone invention and try to make it more compacted, which will make it less time consuming for survival players, including yourself (if you want to in survival) to gather the materials to rebuild.
@jazziiRed
@jazziiRed Жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, thanks for the comment! For the piston wall, the delay is there so that the pistons push exactly when the TNT explodes. The entire wall is hooked up together as well. This is common practice for TNT blast chambers that use the moving block mechanic. And for the midi machine, that redstone dust is necessary. I tried it first the way you described, but it doesn't work. Because the observer is triggered by the changing lamp and the lamp is powered by a lever, the top dispenser gets bud powered by the lamp two blocks above it and falls out of sync. The next thing I tried was having it power a block first, but then the bottom dispenser doesn't get correctly bud powered. I finally landed on the redstone dust, which works. You can try this in your own world if you like, and you will find the same results. In conclusion, I do iterate my designs before sharing them. That doesn't mean that they are perfect, but rest assured that I am not missing anything so seemingly obvious when it goes out to the public. Thanks, and have a nice day!
