The senior player taught the younger one how to mate a lone King with a combination of King, Bishop and Knight. He got several chances to mate earlier. He chose to play like that for teaching the kid. So heartening.

Look at 5:22. Mick hovers over his pond to see if Golan realizes that pushing that pond would stalemate the game. Golan does and he knows Mick is seeing if he does. That's why Golan motions for him to push that pond. Later when Mick takes a bishop for his last promoted pond, Golan laughs. To those who don't understand and seriously think that a Senior Life Master is making himself feel clever by toying with a kid, well he isn't. They're both having fun. This is good-natured teasing by Mick and Golan is enjoying it. He could have resigned but (like many young players) persisted until he was checkmated....and got some decent endgame experience out of it.

@OwenRona4 жыл бұрын
Oh cool game! I think I’ve seen an endgame like this teaching about the W maneuver with the Knight working with a Bishop to corral the King to the corner of choice for the sweet mate. If I remember right, White wants the Black King in the corner with the same colour as his bishop. So Black’s best odds to force draw is to go to the opposite side of the board. I’ve seen some of the kid’s games in this channel and he’s really good! I’m sure he’ll learn from this game and get even better 🙂

@@skylarshearl3161 bruh The kid had no chance of a tie. Maybe if he traded less aggressively in the start then yes but his pawn trades were silly personally i would would have take that enpassant earlier on to have my bishop still in the game that way the kid could have forced the other guy to play more defensively with his pawns allowing for less bring-ins. I think you guys should understand that you cannot argue over a game of chess as you never know the players plan and how fast their plan can fail with one unexpected move by an opponent. I have reached my highs in chess until one day in a big tournament i was poker faced by a well known opponent who played trade offs aggresively unusual to their nature which forced me to pick up tempo but you cant just go from piano to drums. So different players have different strategies. That was my first draw out of 43 matches.
