If someone isnt signed to a label, buying a CD would help them profit. As of 2020 though bands on labels hardly make anything on CD's at least when you stream they get money every time you listen. By the time you listen to an album two times on a streaming service it would probably cancel out the amount that the band gets from CD's. But yes shirts and live shows do get the band a decent amount of money. I just think it is not well known CD's dont make much of a difference

What confused me most is that he said that the record labels are making loads of money on streaming, so shouldn't they be pointing at the record label instead of streaming services? Feels to me that record labels are using a loophole (or call it a lame excuse) to not pay the artists for their work.
@Hirogen75 жыл бұрын
André de Zwart I thought the same thing. Maybe we misunderstood but it sounds like the labels being greedy too (surprise)
@weakish5 жыл бұрын
Spotify's last quarterly report had them pegged at 1.6 billion in revenue during a 3 month period. Out of that their profit was 434 million. That gets Spotify about 144 Million in "Profit" a month. All this anger is directed towards Spotify because that is what the labels want. If artists pressure the streaming platform the labels get more money from deals and then give a small percentage to the artists instead of cutting into their own existing margins.

That was fun. Kept it loose and enjoyable. Corey was engaged, less of an interview, more of a conversation. Well done my friend.

@Grooovetrain It has several amazing songs IMO. "Gehenna" is my favorite Slipknot song to date for its sludgy riffs and the overall dark vibes . I have never understood why fans dislike it so much. I know the band members talk about how they were never in the same room recording etc and i think that some fans are just going along with the way that the band feels about AHIG. For me its special because it was the first Slipknot album i whole heartedly embraced as i am mostly into old school metal like Slayer, Morbid Angel, Pantera etc so it took a while for me to get past WANTING to dislike them for the masks (i felt it was a gimmick) and having a DJ etc .i did really like Subliminal and its now my favorite overall Slipknot for variety and solid songwriting. But i actually bought AHIG and it was the reason i went back to their self titled album and i now like it as well. All i can say is music is subjective and opinions are like....

What an interview! probably one of my all time favorite interviews of Corey or atleast one of the best I've seen in a while. You and Corey did a great job at turning it into a fun conversation, rather than a standard one way conversation type interview.
