You can only take treaty ports (like Spanish Melilla in Morocco) via the "Take Treaty Port" demand if you own the state it's in directly (al Rif, in this case). Having Morocco as a subject is not sufficient, though they themselves can start a play for it (so long as Spain is weak enough compared to them and they themselves are not a puppet). Sometimes, liberating a country and then taking them over later can do the trick; if you want Gibraltar, you can force Great Britain to release Andalusia before making Andalusia a protectorate. Taking Melilla in this way, though, would require Morocco to not exist before forcing Spain to release them, so it wouldn't make too much difference. "Reverse swaying" can help get protectorates on smaller nations for free. It's very rare for nations to accept "Ask for Become Protectorate" unless they have extremely high relations with you and/or they have especially low confidence in the play. Precisely because of that, you can temporarily join one side in play for nothing (not asking for an obligation or anything), preferably not the side you already have high relations with where possible, and the other side will be that much more willing to give you whatever you want to join their side, be it a bankroll, a transferred state, or their entire country as a protectorate. Generally speaking, please invest in a strong navy. Just being able to launch multiple naval invasions at once can make a huge difference, not to mention it disproportionately boosts your prestige and number of declared interests, if that's what you're generally most concerned about. Anhalt is going to be one hell of an uphill battle, even by the standards of minor states within Germany, being completely inside Prussia's borders. Fortunately, you won't have to worry about isolated states if you do manage to expand (with Prussia's support); everything's in Prussia's market anyway. You also have a Reformer Intelligentsia as a ruler at the start, making it quick and easy to reform your country. If possible, it'd be impressive if you could go for a "historically accurate" Anhalt, taking over "Neu-Askania" in the state of Cherson (in modern-day Ukraine), which belonged to the duke of Anhalt until 1856. Or you could go full Catherine the Great (who technically belonged to Anhalt's ruling family) and somehow subjugate Russia outright. After that, Ankole is unique among its immediate neighbors for starting with a historical leader and, more importantly, No Migration Controls, allowing it to grow off of mass migrations early on and recruit agitators to liberalize. This also allows an exploit where you can exile a moderate interest group leader to reset and randomize their ideology before immediately re-recruiting them as an agitator, potentially allowing for Abolitionist Landowners from day one. With 3 battalions, Ankole marginally stronger than Karagwe to the southeast and can thus safely declare war to conquer them immediately.

That explanation for trade ports is actually super helpful. That makes a lot of sense now. As for upcoming nations, I have no clue how I'm going do any conquest with Anhalt, but I look forward to playing them anyway.

@TobyYellsAtThings6 ай бұрын
Ulema and Intelligencia used to be such a strong combo for pop growth. They had to go and nerf the Religious interest group to no longer give higher birth rates. There does seem to be an interest in ottoman empire gameplay, so I might make a return to them sometime soon.

@@TobyYellsAtThings Yaaaayyy in new Dlc it would be fun to see Ottomans rise up with Tobias, with whole population growth (they both like good laws public health insurance and public schools, and then slavery banned+homesteading and later multi culturalism and some taxation things via intelegensia, and since sultan is part of intelegensia, you can do it easier for the start :D)

Demobilizing during war "incurs a 90 decaying expense equal to the mobilization cost of that army's units", instead of immediately going to near zero usage per the wiki. I think that's where the weird deficit during and after the france/egypt war came from

Invest in a good uninteruptible power supply. I got one 15 years ago, changed the batteries twice so far, has been one of the best computer upgrades I have done. And since I have had it I haven't had any major component failures other than a couple of old HDDs but those were likely due to age and use.

The reason England had so much prestige is because they had a MASSIVE navy. A big navy gives you tons of prestige.
