Honestly after years of studying Led Zep I have a sneaking suspicion that is a misfretted note by Jimmy and he just left it in because it’s close enough for rock and roll

I agree play like you have been taught but trying some new way to play is fun also. I think Page has said himself in some articles that he doesn't necessarily play every song the same way live when they were on tour. I think that's what makes concerts so much more for us.

Let me clarify since this is one of the few songs on basically an expert at: First of all, your thumb should be taking care of the three thickest strings. Your index finger is in charge of the g string, not your middle finger. If you use your middle finger on the g string, there's too much of a scraping sound happening. Secondly, regarding the noise that this video is referring to, i always thought that was a two note upstroke rake, but on second listen thats not correct. It's actually him picking a quick triplet almost as one note. In any case, the most important part about nailing this song is the dynamics, and the ebb and flow if the timing of said dynamics. The guitar work kind of swells like a spoken sentence it has a climax during each bar, it's not a monotone thing.
@rodneylee4026
@rodneylee4026 Ай бұрын
Jimmy page played it with the index on the D string. I learned the song and tried thumb on the three tickets strings but it actually sounds/plays better the way Page did it and the way this guy is doing it. For some reason.

Still, I've never seen it played the way my pops taught me; more bluegrassy/folly and dark. Playing the Am in the open position and using the pinky, middle and index fingers to descend down from the 3rd fret on the 6th string while finger-picking the same Am chord and alternating the high notes on the 1st and 2nd strings 3rd fret. Dad said it was closer the Original-original, before Led Zeppelin ...

The hardest song I’ve worked on recently is either the acoustic intro to crazy on you by heart or never going back again by Fleetwood Mac. In terms of solos, I’ve transcribed Gypsy jazz solos that make anything rock and roll look like child’s play.

Technically, in flamenco guitar jargon it's called Rasgueato. It's a very fast arpeggiated version of House Of The Rising Sun type of picking. I love your videos, but you need to try another take on yours. There needs to be a smooth and clear separation of the strings.Yours are not separated. Listen to Robbie Krieger finger pick the intro chords and passages to People Are Strange.
