I have been with the Corries for the last 40 years ...and I still am. For me, their music is on the same scale as Beethoven or Mozart (whom I love). There is no greater folklore than ...them!

Lots of versions of this but surely this is how it's meant to be sung, you just have to listen to the lyrics "I put my head to a cask of brandy" or "A troubled heart can find no rest" Sad thoughtful songs should stay as they are and Roy just owns this auld tune. Also how nice is that word "slighted"!

I was always well impressed by The Corries duo, but after they'd invented the Combolins & mastered them it raised them to such a level there was nobody ANYwhere near them! So sadly missed - VERY DEEP SIGH !

Wow never heard this version by the corries before. Amazing. The tone is a lot sadder and haunting. Luke Kelly's a lot more up beat. 2 class versions so different

I´m a Fitzpatrick too but Scottish and think the Corries version is better, more wistful and depressing but maybe that´s the difference between us. You gained your freedom. We are still part of a phony state called the UK run by England. Greetings from a fellow Celt.
