Being a commercial crabber has a lot of costs surrounding it. It has monetary costs, physical costs, emotional costs, and family costs. Some people probably wonder why I keep doing it, but honestly I wouldn't change a thing! I get to do something I love everyday, I get opportunities to manage my own time, and I get to have a ton of fun!

And you can remember ALL THAT?! It's no wonder crabmeat is so expensive. Still, you don't actually farm the crab. Nature does it for you.

Just FYI... Better help is a scam, known for selling their clients' privacy sensitive information for profit. Seeing as your whole image revolves around hard work and integrity, you might want to look into that, and maybe reconsider taking sponsorships from them. From what I can tell, they are genuine scum of the earth. Do with that what you will, just thought I'd let you know.

I remember we would go out in the early 1980s to Wye River or Kent Narrows, ran two 900 ft trot lines w eel. We would get on the water at 530am, be off by 11am, and get 4 to 6 buschel each time. My pop would sell crabs in neighborhood, no licenses needed, no red tape. We would keep a buschel to steam and make soup. The rest were gone by that eve. Those were the days. The Wye River in the 80s/early 90s was a #1 Jimmy heaven, doublers after doublers, black bottoms, yum

It's wild to me how expensive they gotten. Even as recently as 20 years ago I bought a dozen blue crabs while on vacation in Tybee Island Georgia for less than $30. When I heard what most were charging for them my eye's nearly popped out of my head. A dozen blue crabs will barely feed 2-4 people once you've picked all the meat off of them.

You need to look into a cooltrax setup for your crab trailer. It automatically monitors the actual temp inside and you can set what temperature to alert you at so no matter what or where you’re you are if your system goes down (crabs start dying) it will blow your phone up and let you know something is wrong. Costs around $500 to get the transponder and temp pucks then it’s like $100 a year for the service. One saved breakdown will pay for it easily. We use them in the produce hauling game to protect our stuff.

You sure look, seem, and act happy, Luke McFadden - God Bless You, Friend. I grew up in Chester, PA, during the 50s and 60s doing many of the things you do. We fished and crabbed and hunted all over the quad-state area. My folks are mostly gone now - I'm retired, and living in So. Carolina. During the summers, we used to eat crabs almost every week, and go get our own 6 or more times a year - even had a couple of trotlines after they changed the law to allow them. I remember nights in late August when they'd be running on the surface - we'd spotlight 'em, and just scoop 'em up with the nets as we idled along. Watching your videos is therapy for me, because I'm reminded of how wonderful those days were, and how much I miss them. You're living a lifestyle that costs a lot - but is close to nature, and very rich in rewards. I sure hope I can get up your way one of these days and drop by your stand for a dozen or so of those jumbos. It's the best way I can think of to say, "Thank You".

Luke I know exactly what you mean about the fishing business ! It's almost like a whirlpool sucking you down! My dad was a commercial fisherman out of Moss Landing, in Monterey Bay California from over 50 years. Dungeness crabs in winter! Salmon season use to run from April 15 to September 30 . Also Albacore tuna in the Summer when they were running. In highschool I ran my own boat that my dad and I built 2 years later the EPA came in and screwed up all the fishing seasons ! In another 2 years over a thousand fisherman were out of business! Fort Brag had over 400 commercial fishing boats that the banks repo's. Dad helped me sell my boat I told him to keep the money and I went into the Navy for 20 years, yes there's times that I han not did that! Keep up the good work there are always people wanting to buy your ketch! My Dad went to selling his catch out of the back of his pick truck with a reafer on it instead of to the fishing brokers to get what he wanted for his catch!

Keep up the great work ethic! I never realized that was your yard, haha. My dogs used to love sniffing around and running in that field.
