I usually just buy used cars and just rebuild them. Sure the chassis maybe a year or two outdated but you still have something to drive and you know how to fix it since you took it apart and put it back together.

100% I buy mine off racers that upgrade. General come with loads spares. I have no ambition to be sponsored and don't have the skills to out drive my car so 2nd hand and a couple generation old is more than enough for me.

Another great video, love it. Was almost expecting "Here's me face!" when you did the first add up, lol. I crept into 1/10 racing slowly, from quadcopters through crawlers then "tamiya" rallyX before the good stuff. This means that I built up the ancillary stuff gradually so the only expense for the addition on 1/10 racing was the car, £450 for a secondhand fully running XB4. Thats the most I've spent in one hit throughout the hobby, but I feel I could recover most of that if I resold it.

Great job with the video. Folks should also be aware that if they branch out to/from 2WD/4WD, some costs have already been paid (eg charger and transmitter, same scale more items).

Good video. There are lots of good budget options out there. Just a couple examples are the hobbywing quicrun sensored 10bl120 and 10bl60, they have some timing options as well (not turbo/boost) but an easy way to change static timing without messing with your motor endbell to see if its a good change. Surpass motors are a solid choice as well for around $70, and they make a lot of motors for the big guys. Off-brand sanwa receivers are also a good place to save some cash (arx 482r).
@VestedUTuber11 ай бұрын
Another budget option is, well... going big and getting an RTR 1/8th scale E-buggy from Serpent or Kyosho. You can get one of those for less than most 1/10th scale racing kits.
@St3_yo2 жыл бұрын
The track I'm close to offers a beginner class where it's bring whatever 1/10 rc you have and run it. Nobody really takes this seriously and all the drivers are new & terrible like me but it's good ole fun to get out & compete. I'm currently running a 2WD short course truck which are a dime a dozen out there. It's a good option to see if racing is your thing buying you time to save for that buggy which seems to be the natural progression.
@therctutor81003 жыл бұрын
This is a great video for all those people asking “how much does rc cost”. If you have 1/8 or other scales in your rc garage you should do videos on them as, at least 1/8 scale, gives the new driver goose bumps. They are now and always have been a feat to watch and listen too.
@RoachRC3 жыл бұрын
I'll be doing vids on 8th scale eventually. They are quite expensive.
@VestedUTuber11 ай бұрын
I'll just say this, at a club level 1/8th scale (as well as 4WD SCT) doesn't have to be that expensive. Those classes run on dirt or at most unsealed dirt/clay mix, which helps equalize things and narrow the gap between entry-level and top-end vehicles, plus many of the "entry level" 1/8th scale vehicles are actually quite capable out of the box. You can take a Serpent SRX8-E RTR, Kyosho Inferno MP10e Readyset or an ARRMA Typhon TLR Tuned RTR out of the box, put it on the track, and actually have a fair chance. Whereas for 1/10th scale, if you tried to do that with an Associated RB10 you're going to get smoked. Granted, there _is_ the Serpent SRX2 Spyder RTR for 1/10th scale but that's kitted for mod class and not many tracks actually run modified on a regular basis.

Nice vid, do you think you could one day give a run down of what you actually take to a race? I recently went racing for the first time and the most disheartening aspect for me was watching everyone else carry in multiple totes of tools and spare parts.

@@RoachRC thanks for the reply. It's one of the reasons I like your channel is it seems a pretty practical/budget way of racing and just enjoying it. There's not a lot of rc in my area, maybe I just went on an odd day too when the only people who showed up were the hard-core folks. Really I think the major thing was only having one car to run and just sitting around for long periods between classes.

So for Mod racing we run the 10BL120 at RC3 for the most part. Bear in mind this is not a ROAR legal ESC so if you are looking for that you'll need to shell out for a ROAR legal ESC. The 10BL120 runs about 55 bucks and can handle down to 4.5T motors.

Great summery and useful advice as always with your videos. Thanks from the UK 🇬🇧 👍 Interesting to hear that electronics are on pare with UK, your kits I think are a little cheaper, the IS brands anyway. You didn't mention that short course is cheaper than buggy classes to run. The chassis are a good bit more affordable. They are also easier to drive for beginners. You can bump and bang short course, but if the wheels on buggies touch, someone is having a bad time.

Great video. And laying down some real truth too. This hobby isn't cheap, and it never has been. Which to me is what hurts it more than anything else. It's just like with real cars and real racing - ya wanna play, ya gotta pay. But budget options are out there as you said, so there are other ways to get in without sacrificing an entire paycheck. And we can't forget, the fastest, most expensive parts bolted to the most expensive chassis mean nothing if you don't put in the track time. Give a budget-built two-generation old competition buggy to an experienced driver with lots of track time under their belt, and I have no doubt they'll be right up in front. And I will admit...I've never added up how much my B6.3 cost me. Frankly, I don't want to know...LOL!!
@ripmax3332 жыл бұрын
You make the hobby as expensive as you like, and nowadays its not that we don’t have options, on the contrary we have plenty. The problem is how much people are willing to try, for example LC racing have 1/14 and 1/12th scale buggy and short course truck. Yes they are smaller but with the right setup they can be plenty fast and Fun on a right size track plus they come with all the bells and whistles like fully adjustable suspension, shocks, carbon fiber parts etc etc and also in kit and RTR form. Why they aren’t any of these racing? Or at least I don’t see any videos of them in competition racing.
@VestedUTuber11 ай бұрын
@@ripmax333 It's a matter of them just not having the available classes. Having three separate 4WD buggy classes for 1/14th, 1/12th and 1/10th would divide the field massively... but then on the flip side you have tracks trying to run "sportsman", "intermediate" and "pro" divisions for every single motor class and vehicle type they _do_ run so that explanation doesn't _entirely_ make sense. Still, historically the 1/14th stuff ran with the 1/16th and 1/18th stuff and 1/12th only existed as a pan car class. LC is currently the only company that makes a 1/12th scale buggy kit and the only two other 1/12th scale buggies on the market are both RTR clones of their kit.

yeah it's the cost but more over the whole hobby has turned into a money grab thing, i have what were expensive various name brands truggy, buggy, touring and f1 cars that even though they are still in perfectly runnable condition but because the manufacturer came out with newer models which a lot of the time just consist of reconfigured parts that are just different enough not to be backwards compatible then they stop making parts for previous models leaving you with perfectly serviceable cars that you can't get parts for anymore. i would probably still be running my touring car but i can't even get belts for it anymore and my f1 car takes a special body which at one time retailed for $24 but now the only ones that are available are in japan and they're asking $400 just for a new unpainted lexan body, i just had enough. I got me an old slash which there are always parts available for and a mad van ve, built an oval track at my house and i just run for fun which is the only reason i was in the hobby om the first place, the fun of making my cars go fast....
