I remember when i first started racing 25 years ago the tracks had 2 options for off road. Losi and AE. That was about it in my area. Coming back into the hobby i was really overwhelmed with the choices! But for me i went with what i was comfortable with. Just wish there were closer tracks. Hopefully soon i can get out to Loganville.

Great video! I switched over to WIRC from Agama earlier this year because I was given an opportunity to join the team from the team manager Rob Isaac . I definitely have gotten great support from fellow teammates and our local track/shop is the US distributor for WIRC so it's nice to be able to go there for the parts I need so the change has been very beneficial.

Though I love my B7 and haven't bent/broken any parts I can see where someone just starting should probably look at a B6.x to learn the ropes then upgrade when their skills warrant it. If someone has their heart set on AE. Great vid!

Interesting when I got back into Ebuggy it was between the tekno and X-ray since they were the only two I tried. That’s how i determined what I might get by trying the car if people let me. And at the time what was available to buy used. In the end I got a X-ray 2021 used that was ready to run with tires so it was the best deal so far I’m doing well with it.

I was getting into RC and I learned to drive with a arrma typhon, it was unable to keep up with racing buggies, I had a bunch of tekno guys encourage me to get a tekno because i would be able to keep up with other drivers. I bought one and ran it for a year and a half and i was just unable to really get it to corner the way i wanted, after a while i drove my friends Sworkz car and it drove just like my old typhon, and was even faster then the tekno. Sometimes the car everyone else runs is not what is best for you, if there truly was one car that was superior to the rest of them you would see everyone run them, look at custom works in the dirt oval scene. If you know someone who has a car your interested in, see if they will let you drive it.

Nice video, I own the TLR 8ight x elite and 8ight truggy. Here in Southern CA, people mainly run at my local track tekno, team associate, kyosho, and some mugen. I don't see much TLR, but my hobby shop/track stocks up parts. The main reason why I stay with TLR is bc some people talk trash or say it's odd bc they don't see TLR.

for a real like "beginner" i would allways recommend going the popular local brand, just for knowlage and parts support. as soon as we talk about someone who is a self sustainable racer, with that i mean someone who can set is own stuff up and can do his own maintenance and has enough experience to just take care of his own program. then i would say drive whatever platform you want for whatever reason you weigh heavy in your preferences. BUT stick to it for a while. i ride my brand now for the 4th season and still just made a breakthrough this year with tinkering the cars geometry with some other brands parts and drilling my own roll center holes. it is a lot about knowing your Chassis, the better you know it, the better you can take care of it, and the more you can optimize it to your own prefernces to make it fit like a glove for your driving style. you won't get that with changing brand every year.
@dannyfox81707 ай бұрын
MSB1 top plates keep snapping and the rear shock standoffs keep bending too! I went B7, but a buddy has the MSB1. We think the chassis flexing is causing the servo horn to break through the top plate. I have been lucky with my B7, broken arm and a couple gouges in the chassis, but I have also smacked the crap out of it a handful of times. Maybe I am just lucky, but I seriously am considering running a 6.4 instead if I start to have problems like others have.

I’m learning that area has everything to do with this hobby in sourcing parts or upgrades unless you own and drive a Traxxas. This is the frustration I am experiencing.
@normanboeck544429 күн бұрын
We got away from losi because of parts availability and team associated because of durability. We all switched to traxxas, and while it’s taken a while to make them competitive, we have them going every bit as fast as anything else. Parts are available everywhere and they are relatively cheap.

What are your thoughts for the kyosho mp-10e ready set for a beginner? Could I be competitive in noob or intermediate classes if I’m lucky enough to find the “driver mod” with practice?
@RoachRC6 ай бұрын
I really like the Mp10e that I run now, it's also the most stable car I've ever driven so it would be good to learn on. Only thing I'd worry about would be part support and having to use Philips head screws for hardware
@russellupkes82634 ай бұрын
I’m totally new to the hobby. I’ve only been in it for 4 months now. Would like to give racing a try so would my 10 year old son. I thought about getting a SCT . But one of the local guys suggested running a buggy. He feels they are easier to run than the SCT. I do have the Arrma Vorteks BLX 4x4 3S. Some local racers suggested running it until I get it figured out. And see what others are running and see what I prefer and go from there. All of that being said what would you suggest as a good beginner rig to race. In my local area Traxxas and Arrma dominate in the LHS. The guy suggested the buggy over the SCT due to the parachuting of the SCT bodies. Thanks and great video. You’ve gained a Sub!

As an admitted Tekno fanboy you got me with clickbait on this video, although I’ve watched many of your others. I thought I’d go into this video hearing about why it’s lame to be a hipster. But I fully appreciate your view here. And I’m glad you’re running agama. It’s nearly all AE 1/10th here and parts are abundant, but my experience with the AE kits, more specifically their terrible owners manuals, has been less than stellar. This video makes me want to rethink begging Tekno to build a 1/10th program, and try something different. I’m willing to buy any brand outside of Hotizon or Traxxas. I might even try a Mayako even though JQ makes it a tough pill to swallow, lol. The spare parts advice is rough if a newcomer can’t afford to stock up though. The best way to have spares is a second kit built as a slider, pull parts off as needed, replace with new and then sell the slider in two years or whatever to recoup the money.

It would be wonderful if TLR replenished their parts stock in June instead of July. I need to replace the front gearbox since I crashed hard. I purchased the TLR 22X-4 Elite because of nostalgia, always wanted a Losi buggy circa 1990's and couldn't afford it, and due to not knowing which brand to go with coming in to the current market. I can wait but it seems odd since their kits are going to be available in June?! I suppose every brand has its problems. I also just replaced the OEM drive train with the Matt Olsen Design (MOD) kit because I got tired of TLR's front center drive shaft ball joint chipping and losing the cva pin. ugh.

Credit to for getting the AGAMA and I know it was for our sake… when I get a buggy I want something that everyone doesn’t have… I’m going to go serpent… any top level buggy will do the trick. The rest is all marketing… parts can be purchased online and in advance for every brand…. Get something to stand out from the crowd and I bet you will be proud of your unique car.

Most of our local drivers drive mugen or sworkz, but those cars are not for me. I also tried associated and xray. I am the only one with the Agama and i let try other people to drive my car and they said that the Agama handles very good and they are thinking about to change brand. Hopefully more people drive something different and smaller brands like agama, wirc and so on are become more popular.

The thing that really annoys me about brand choice are the people that treat it like a religion. Choose one an then stick with it forever. Far too many people I know buy a car because of the name written on the box rather than the content of the box. IMO the product itself should matter more than the brand and innovation/progress/quality should be rewarded by sales. Also I can confirm the LD3 ist surprisingly tough.
