True. I am a Brazilian woman and I know very well that calling an ambulance in the US costs a fortune. Here in Brazil it is also free for the population, but it is not good in general. Even so, we have the largest public health system in the world, despite finding this fact controversial. China also offers its citizens access to free health care, as far as I know, and China has 7 times the population of Brazil. Every now and then, our public health system stands out, such as in the greater access to HIV treatment in the world. Good public hospitals in terms of cancer treatment and burn treatment. In fact, Bras developed a technique using tilapia skin (a fish) to treat burned skin, which has already been used several times in the USA. BUT I know that Spain has an excellent free healthcare service and, stop me, just like in Brazil, it doesn't even exclude illegal immigrants. ​​@edmundallin7301 Yes.... In fact, life expectancy in the US is not much higher than here in Brazil, which would already be higher if it weren't for the violence, unfortunately. But states like Santa Catarina, for example, have a life expectancy VERY close to that of the US. BY THE WAY, because of the foods they eat, I think they even live a long time. But because it's cold there (in the winter at least) there are no diseases found in tropical countries like mine. If there's one way of life I don't envy, it's the American way of life. Unfortunately, there are some of my compatriots who are alienated and dream of the "American dream". And they are treated badly on top of that. Lack of SELF-LOVE.

Os países europeus por terem populações envelhecidas é claro que esse serviço receberia mais recursos publicos mas saúde de qualidade tem um preço, impede ganhos de produtividade ante competição econômica com mercados mais dinâmicos e aquecidos como China, Índia. Brasil tem muito o que evoluir no SUS, financiamento é claro mas também estimular a carreira de medicina, não dá para depender de médico de Cuba.

Sources? Definition of Health? Does it mean health standards as in average levels of health as measured? Or access to or the standard or cost of health care available? Or health as measured by doctor ratios or hospital admissions? Or health as measured by parameters like infant and child mortality, maternal mortality, obesity, overall mortality rates, longevity and life expectancy? I have seen quite different reporting of rankings from what is presented here.

Let's pretend that Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong SAR don't exist. They are clustered at the top of today's average life expectancies by country, and universal healthcare is efficient, reliable, and fully up to date. The Japanese pay high taxes for top quality government services including healthcare, but Hong Kongers do not, and Singapore manages to provide what is by most criteria the world's best universal healthcare system funded by low taxes.
