Eh, he should be really grateful for his current banker occupation, because the former career-that of a musician who performs only on armpit flatulence noises-actually would get him nowhere to be realistic. And there are more interesting and artistically executed music films out there, trust me. The 2005 Berlin International Film Festival Golden Bear winner uCarmen eKhayelitsha from South Africa is an underrated classic, check that one out. 😉

One thing I did like, though. The Big Brother Bully in this movie never gets away with it and is constantly punished by his parents for bullying his brother. Definitely a lot better than in most tv and movies where the parents just ignore the bullying and don;t do anything.

That's a good point, actually. And I could even buy Dex missing Barry and realizing he really loves his little brother no matter what he looked like. I just wish there'd been a few scenes where maybe Dex sees his mom going through photos of the boys or something and maybe he sees a picture of himself and Barry doing something when they were little that meant a lot to him, or else maybe he feels the emptiness of the house without him and realizes he teased him lovingly, but that maybe he'd been too harsh or something. I don't know, just something to tie up his 180.

I still wouldn't say they are good parents though... I mean you also do understand why he resents his brother, his parents are openly more affectionate with the bear brother than they are with him, and they say that they "might love him even more" than Dex RIGHT IN FRONT of the poor kid!!!

The parents refusing to acknowledge Beary is a bear almost seems like a tasteless spoof of parents that treat the fact that one of their kids is adopted as some huge secret they take to the grave that should never be shared under any circumstances, and even when one kid is pretty obviously an odd man out, looks-wise (olive complexioned brunette in a family of pale blondes, etc.) Like, you see it in medical dramas a lot; the kid is sick with some mystery illness, they want the family history to see if it's something hereditary, and even after the doctors look and see the genetics make no sense, they still firmly state that "he is our son and nobody else's."

The one reason why I remember this movie so well is because when I was 7, I used to have a Trixie doll from McDonald's, based on the movie. It was actually a reward I got from the "Treasure Chest" at school for good behavior. One day, I lost the doll while I was out with my grandma, and I was really having a meltdown over it. (And at that point, I should have known better.) So much so, that I was no longer allowed to bring toys with me in public. Fifteen years later, when watching the movie again, this memory popped up in my head again, and so after three weeks of scouring the internet, I was finally able to find the Trixie doll again on Amazon. And the rest is history.

I'd think Paddington is a more apt contrast to this than Roger Rabbit. Everyone is just so cool about the existence of a four-foot-tall talking bear. (Cabdriver in original book: "Bears is sixpence extra. Sticky bears is ninepence.") For that matter, at one point I'd thought that Jim Henson's Creature Shop would have been an ideal candidate for a Paddington movie. After this, I realize that may not have worked and that we're much better off with the Paddington movies we got.

When Disney’s ‘11 “The Muppets” movie (badly) needed some script-doctoring, they let Pixar’s writer staff take a look at the early script, and their reaction to the first script was reportedly “This is a shot for shot remake of the Country Bears Movie, with Kermit the Frog inserted!” So, let it never be said that the CBM was ever truly “forgotten”. 🤣

To be fair, "Beastars" did the honey-addiction better. Which brings up this question: how the flip do Country Bears prevent their natural hunger for humans or control their height? Also, why weren't Trixie and Tenesse made to be Beary's bio parents when the kid looks like Trixie in the face but has Tenesse's fur color? Would it have been too cliched even for this movie?

I hate when people try to deny that an adopted child is adopted. Being adopted doesn’t make them any less a part of the family. If anything, it makes their familial bond even stronger, because their family chose them, and isn’t just stuck with them because they’re related by blood. If I ever adopt a kid, they will know that they’re adopted. They will know that I chose to be their mother. They will know how much I love them and want them to be part of my family.

Why do adoptive parents even hide the fact that their child is adopted, anyway? It's dumb enough that it was used here when the adoptive child is not even human, so why is this even a thing? I would think any kid who knows from an early age that they're adopted can handle this fact!

Here Disney apparently is trying to do more Muppet-a-like stuff. I mean: The characters are created by the people of Jim Henson, we have Queen Latifah owning a bar/diner like in "Muppets Wizard of Oz" and the plot about getting the band back together in oder to save something is very similar to "The Muppets" which came out about a decade later.

They made so many weird choices with this movie that I have to remind myself that this was based on the Country Bear Jamboree attraction. It feels like they made this original film and smacked the Country Bears name on it in hopes that that would make people care about it. At least their second attempt at a movie based on one of their attractions came out a lot better.
