We were little when DeLorean came out in 1981. I remember it being in the Back to the Future movie. We were a bit little to recall the car company was on trial for a drug deal. My sister and I were shocked to learn this today.

Glossing over quite a few details, but understandable. Hudson was going under, and John used this to leverage himself into a chief engineering position. This brought about the first production automatic transmission. I believe 2nd place offering, for goverment funding, was in Vermont. John was looking at a rotary engine, but since it wasnt Mazda production, fell through and the PRV engine was the runner up. The FBI informant was looked at as a ruthless drug dealer. The day before he took off to the drug deal, he sent a letter to his personal lawyer. Saying he worried for his safety as well as his family.
