As sweet as the Duggar girls are, this show is toxic, and if I had a daughter I wouldn’t let them watch it. It is a societal belief and even more exaggerated in the south, that a woman is incomplete without a husband, and I think this is a dangerous way to live. Their whole culture is based on it, when marriage and kids WILL happen, they marry young and start the breeding process. Ladies - know who you are first!! What you like to do, you’re hobbies and interests and who you are before you give your whole life up for a husband. They have no goals, ambitions or dreams except to get married and have children. I guarantee none of these girls know what THEY like. They just know what their mom liked, and all the other women in their family and previous generations and they assume they like it too. The truth is they have to like it at that point because marriage is a legal bind where the government is involved. I’m not saying they aren’t happy but if they were miserable in this patriarchal culture, the women has no say, if he beats her or emotionally drains her she has to act grateful and carry on smiling. I hope young women don’t watch this show believing marriage is the only goal of life. Life isn’t about searching for your other half it’s about knowing what you like and who you are. Being single doesn’t make you incomplete it makes you individual. Know and love yourself first before you give yourself to someone for the sake of societal pressure. Their whole show is based heavily on codependency on men and they think it is god wanting them to do so, but it is not.
