Whats just as surprising is how none of those Eagles teams in that era never got to a Superbowl,they had amazing talent at all positions.They also ran into bad luck a couple of times,but imo,they are probably the most talented team of that late 80s- early 90s era to not make a Superbowl

Bowden's "Bringing the Heat" is an outstanding football book that IMHO hasn't gotten the attention it deserves - he's much more well known for writing "Blackhawk Down." Wes Hopkins was a hero of mine growing up - I still own an Eagles jersey with his number and name on it - but reading Bowden's book really opened my eyes that Wes was not a particularly good or nice guy underneath his smiling exterior. As Bowden puts it: "His teammates, even players who prided themselves on the violence of their play, would describe him as "mean" - and not just in the admiring way football players do, but earnestly, touching on something deeper than professional toughness. 'Understand me,' one confided, 'Wes is truly a mean man.' Oddly, this was the side of his personality that Wes would sometimes show those closest to him, his family, his wife."

@jamesedgar3442 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure Reggie White talked to him about all this. But here's the thing about Christians sharing the gospel with others - all you can do is share. It's up to the person you're sharing with to accept what you offer. If the person you're reaching out to rejects what you offer, there's little you can do. Wes seems like a lot of guys - your level of "manhood" is completely determined by the number of sexual partners you have. I can easily see Reggie talking to him, and Wes essentially saying, "Forget it, I'm a MAN! I'm only a MAN if I get 1,000 women to go to bed with me!!!!" Not much he could do with that mentality.

There was a monumental punch-up on a plane coming back from a game that they actually won - which was NOT the players, it was the wives. There had been a toxic atmosphere between a few cliques of the wives, and it all boiled over when one of guys made a comment, so simple and so innocent - "The Ladies seem to be behaving themselves tonight". Oh, sweet child you don't know what the HELL you started. Not sure what team it was, but the Eagles again come to mind.

I don't feel sorry for Amy at all. Wes Hopkins was lucky that his wife, Erika, let him have a side piece at all. if all Erika wanted was for Wes not to have Amy attend that blowout and he couldn't even honor that basic request, he deserved to be served with divorce papers. This is very similar to what happened in 2009/2010 with the whole scandal involving John Terry, Wayne Bridge, Terry's wife & Bridge's ex-girlfriend. For some context Terry & Bridge were teammates & good friends at Chelsea from 2004-2009. After Bridge had left for Man City that summer, he also broke up with his girlfriend. However Terry started to see this ex-girlfriend of Bridges as she still lived in London as a way of cheating on his wife. Terry tried his best to make sure that the press did not get a hold of this & report it publicly. However once it got reported publicly, all hell broke loose as John Terry's reputation as a good guy took a massive battering not only in England but globally and this quickly became a front page newspaper story. This led to Chelsea playing Man City in February 2010 the first time that Bridge & Terry would be playing against each other. There was major drama during this match as not only did Terry & Bridge not shake hands during the pregame handshake, but like in this story Terry's wife & Bridge's ex girlfriend got into a fight in the stands & had to be separated by security. I should point out that this whole scandal had major consequences for both Terry & Bridge when it came to their playing careers as Bridge had to end his international career with England & Terry was stripped of his captaincy of the English national team just before the 2010 World Cup. Despite this scandal, John Terry is still with his wife to this day & is currently an academy coach with Chelsea. This is by far one of the craziest scandals in English soccer history.
