As someone who has embraced the fact that the Monsterverse is now fully relegated to dumb, fun action movies, I have to say, this trailer actually gave me some mixed feelings. It is very jarring to see Godzilla running like that at the end, even though they explain it through his evolution it's just . . . weird. Also, the more these movies take place in environments like the hollow Earth, with little or no human architecture, the more the scale of the creatures disappears. You could show someone that final shot of them running and if that person isn't familiar with the characters or franchise, they'd have no reason to think they are supposed to be 400 feet tall. And that raw anticipation we had for Godzilla vs. Kong because it was the first time they'd been in a movie together in over half a century? Well, we've crossed that bridge and it already doesn't seem so special anymore. I'm still hyped to see it overall and am curious what surprises it might have in store. But to me, it feels like Godzilla vs. Kong pushed the franchise to a line of craziness and silliness that ought not have been crossed further and now they have happily done a double flip over that line.

The trailer seems to hint at an interesting dilemma for Jia, finding a new tribe of Iwi that stick her in some ceremonial garb, possibly as sacrificial food to the bad guy, which is about the most interesting place possible for her character to go and also unlike past Monsterverse adventures

Trapper, allegedly Dan Stevens' character's name, had one line of dialogue, and Bernie is just Bernie (now granted we can debate if he was the weak link in GvK or not, but I'll even concede for the sake of discussion and acknowledge that all he acts stupid during in this trailer is the stinger with little Kong). Andrews has a Karen haircut, but literally all we get from her is ominous trailer monologue and an observation that Scar King isn't Kong (in line with her characterization to understand the difference between Kong handprint and other monkeys) I'm sorry if I'm seeing a different trailer than you guys. Here's the thing. This is what the movie will set up. Jia will have to choose between the Iwi and her friends (or optionally trust the Iwi and wind up sacrificial food and have to fight her way out), Andrews will be a smart Kong expert, Bernie will be Bernie and Trapper is a wild card. If the movie actually fails to deliver on those fronts, I will concede, heck I'll roast the movie with all of you. But it hasn't failed yet; it has only outlined what it needs to do to fail by hinting at the potential. As for every era of Godzilla going through this, you're right, but it's a non sequitur to these films. And that doesn't automatically make the characters bad. This is the fifth film of its series. (So is Minus One). So was Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II, and while I expect Bernie's dynamic with Team Kong to be similar to how G Force dismissed Aoki as a weirdo, I guarantee it'll be a different film with a different message with different character arcs. Judge by execution, not by premise and not by trailer

An observation I noticed about Godzilla’s evolution is just how much fat he’s burned so him running faster than he did in GvK makes sense. Plus for me, Godzilla moving at this speed isn’t that far fetched to me cause Godzilla had similar speeds in Godzilla Final Wars.

GVK was such a messed up movie anyway that the spoiler trailers don't matter, and they treated Kong like trash and had Godzilla defeat him both battles for some reason, it's a cinematic atrocity and GXK seems to just be the same kind of Godzilla-fanboy trash! That pink Godzilla isn’t the real Godzilla, it’s Mechagodzilla. Hear me out…take a look at the way Godzilla turns his head at 2:15 of the trailer. It does the same mechanical jerk motion that Mechagodzilla did right before facing off with Godzilla in GvK. Also, if you look at the way he is laying in that G-cocoon, or whatever the hell that thing is that supposedly evolves him, it looks very similar to the way Mechagodzilla was laying before he was activated the first time in GvK. I think it’s Mechagodzilla with some sort of organic skin that was generated in that cocoon. That would explain why Godzilla’s dorsal fins are a different color and why his lower body is so thin (also a Mechagodzilla trait). So if it is Mechagodzilla in disguise ala Toho’s Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, how did that happen? Here’s my theory…yes, Mechagodzilla was defeated by Godzilla and Kong in GvK, but someone has to pick up the pieces and get rid of them right? And what better place to keep a robot from reactivating than in a freezing environment right? So they dump the MG remains in the arctic. Mechagodzilla never fully shut off so he reactivates after they leave him. It’s cold in the arctic so he develops the MG-cocoon because what better way to survive the cold than monster flesh. Ok so MG is up and running, so why does he team with Kong. Remember Ghidorah transferred his consciousness to Mechagodzilla in GvK and still wants to rule the world. Side note: it’s also why he can create the cocoon. BUT he fears any attempts to reclaim his throne may be thwarted by the highly intelligent and violent Scar King. The enemy of my enemy is my friend right? So MG hooks up with Kong to take out the Scar King. MG/Ghidorah figures once the Scar King is gone, because Godzilla is MIA, he can take out Kong easily. Kong needed Godzilla to make his axe powerful enough to defeat MG. No Godzilla, bye bye Kong, and no Kong, if Godzilla shows up, bye bye Godzilla. Real Godzilla gone, MG/Ghidorah takes his place. All the monsters bow to Godzilla and because MG replaces Godzilla, they now bow to MG. Boom new ruler of the world. King Ghidorah wins.

I saw Minus One on Saturday and my god, what an impactful film. It just shows how shallow and lazy the Western entertainment industry's thinking is on these kinds of films, that it's impossible to have a compelling story about the humans in a kaiju movie. My one issue is with the budget comparisons made in the reviews; if the Japanese film industry properly paid their actors, G -1 wouldn't have cost much more.

Exactly my point! If you want a straight up remake of Godzilla 54 for American audiences, Godzilla 98 is ACTUALLY the closest we got to that. Which by the way I actually love! I also think this movie seems to have taken some inspiration from "Avatar 2" (it is after all done by the same VFX team, so it will look absolutely amazing). Again, I think Drake is a better rapper than Notorious BIG so I clearly don't have the same taste as die hard fans of something. I also LOVE Avatar Way of Water and this movie seems heavily influenced by it. I guess I'm not a die hard insecure fan then.

These movies are absolutely sci-fi. The hollow Earth is a classic science fiction setting used in so many stories before the Legendary films. On another note, I'm pretty sure little Kong is the same species as Kong. He has basically the same coloration as the younger Kong did in Skull Island, except for the green eyes.

I for one really love it, I’m not excited for the film like GvK or KOTM where “it had to be good!!” And all my eggs were in their baskets, but I’m excited for it in the sense of seeing where it goes and just having fun along the ride. I love G-2000... I saw it at Drive-in when it came out... This Godzilla design doesn't look close to that Godzilla. I think that the Monsterverse is taking a turn for the worst. IMO, I don't think it's some direct order from the top from Legendary (Chinese owned)...I think, that THEY think, that it would "upset" Legendary higher ups. So...Adam Wingard is a suck-up and has Godzilla and KONG fight in.........Hong Kong. Something that's always bothered me with MonsterVerse.

Ok, right to it-IMO: Don't like the PINK! You have got to be kidding me! Is that his new warmup shot or something? Pink eyes too?!? What is he, "Godzillabarbie"? All of a sudden Big G runs, and faster than Kong!?!? Kong ran on all fours in GVK. Now he's on 2 legs??? The arm brace-he dislocated his shoulder in GVK. They better not say that is why he has the "brace/weapon" on his forearm. And baby Kong; Anyone else reminded of Planet of the apes, more than one time, & actually throughout this trailer??? The critics, based on this trailer, & "Kingdom o.t.p.o.t. Apes," will trash this to no end, & after "minus one,' will be merciless on this film. I HOPE I'M WRONG! :/

As someone who prefers the Sci-Fi over Fantasy approach to this franchise, my enthusiasm is both incredibly high and slightly forced. I've had enough "FUN" action/adventure movies with zany characters, magical science, and "overblown-anything-can-happen-stakes" from Marvel. But I am very in the mood for grounded, dramatic, well-produced, internally-consistent sci-fi. But, I'm still going to watch the heck out of this movie--I'll hold off on filing an "official complaint," until they give Kong a gun and Godzilla reverse rocket-propulsion atomic breath.

I know alot of fans are complaining about the tone of the MV not being like how it was with 2014 and Skull Island due to the setting of the new film, But what they need to understand is that this is a shared cinematic universe that goes in different directions and have different tones depending on what genre is set for the installments. And the reason why is because it helps the franchise expand while building up the lore and setting of the series. Cuz if the studios kept on doing the same tone for each installment itll end up being a boring and bland series that doesnt have creativity along with the lack of development. And the problem is that they have too much high expectations for the series without acknowledging that it could turn out differently while expecting it to be exactly like the old films even tho the franchise is its own continuity. So basically they should acknowledge the difference more often instead of nitpicking about something that doesn't matter 😂.

I think it’s best to do optimistic about the movie. It’s clear to say this movie will be VERY crazy and different with all the monsters and story. This movie is a big right turn for things, i really hope this movie is done right though to be fixed. Ps: gxk has entered like 1970s level crazy stuff with Godzilla.

They say Kongs name 3 times in the trailer. They say Godzillas name 0 times in the trailer. This is yet another Kong focused movie, with a guest appearance by Godzilla. Making this Kong 3. Kong has basically usurped the role of the main character of the Monstererse. I honestly hope he dies in this so we can finally get Godzilla 3. Yes Godzilla looks cool, (though I dont like him running side by side with Kong like they are some wrestleing tag team bros) But I bet Godzilla has like 5 min of screen time, and Kong has 30.

If you look at the scene with all the apes and Skar King jumps down. You can see all the apes have the red handprint on their bodies. So these are his clan and subservients. So he's not killing them. Also direct center in one ape with no handprint, I think that's Kong. This is NOT a flashback but Kong being brought in and meeting Skar king. Probably they fight and Kong's arm gets messed up and he escapes. Leading to the creating of arm brace for him.

The trailer dropped right when I was in the middle of watching Godzilla Minus One for the first time. I like to think it was when he used his atomic breath in Ginza, it probably wasn't though, couldn't check at the time, obviously.

They need to do a Destroy all Monsters Remake that it could be the Avengers of the Monsterverse showing Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, Rodan and Jet Jaguar fighting an Alien Invasion but we could also see Gigan and Mecha-King Ghidorah.
