I think alot of the apathy toward the Cowboys from the fans was from not liking the way Tom Landry was done. I think we all understood and agreed it was past time for him to retire, but since he wouldn't, someone had to be a villain. In fact, I know people who still won't come back to being Cowboys fans because of that very reason (most came back during the ensuing super bowl years though). 2nd, that 1-15 season was still a success. That one win, as I recall, was against the Skins in RFK! ;)

Thank goodness this worked out well for KVIL even if my Bucs were one of the teams the Cowboys beat (also won here in Tampa in a game I attended) on their way back to prominence. Being on an FM station that's a flamethrower is usually better than being on an AM station. Nothing beats stereo sound!

In 1990, KVIL was the dominant station in the North Texas market, which is how they could both wrest the rights to the Cowboys away from KRLD and could have afforded to buy back those tickets if the promotion went south. The station was pretty well known for its over the top contests even before this. However, getting the Cowboys rights was the beginning of the end. Over the 90s, KVIL became an also-ran. Today, the station is a relatively low-rated alt rock station, owned by Audacy, which ironically enough also owns KRLD, which again has the Cowboys radio rights, except the games are now heard on the all-sports FM station rather than the all-news AM station.

This is very similar to what happened in 2002 in the Premier League with Sunderland. For some context Sunderland had gotten off to one of the worst starts in Premier League history through 12 games with 0 wins, 10 losses & 2 ties & had only scored 2 goals while giving up 20. In fact two of the games (vs Arsenal & Chelsea) Sunderland gave up 6 goals. Due to the poor start to the season, BBC Radio Sunderland did the exact same thing KVIL did here for the rest of that season in the hope that Sunderland would improve. Unlike this, it did not work out at all as Sunderland finished at the bottom of the Premier League with only 19 points (a record low at the time), 4 wins (also a record low) & gave up 65 goals while only scoring 21. The crazy thing about this is that BBC Radio Sunderland tried this same promotion again for 2005-2006 season when Sunderland were back in the Premier League with even worse results as Sunderland finished the season with only 15 points, 3 wins & a record 29 losses which is the 2nd worst season in Premier League history behind the horror show that was Derby County's 2007-08 season.

Paused at 4:56... Even though they lost that game, Troy Aikman had a gem of a game in Phoenix, throwing for 379 yards and a go-ahead TD to Drew Pearson before the Cards came back and won it by a 24-20 score. That game alone said, "Troy Aikman is going to be something to behold later!"

In Dallas' case, this should never be; they've won 5 Super Bowls. Let's see different teams who have never won before get a trophy. Now, here in Buffalo (lost all 4 times; twice to Dallas), they should indeed have such a rule: If the home team isn't putting forth a competitive effort, money refunded - NO QUESTION ASKED. Many other products/services come with "satisfaction guaranteed" promises; sports tickets should be no different.
