The Subban trade was indeed a head scratcher. Hands down, Bergevin's biggest blunder as a GM. Many rumors explained why the trade had to happen, the silliest one, if true, was that Subban celebrated a bit too much with Carey Price after every Habs win. What?! But as a Leaf fan, i ain't complaining 😂

The Gretzky trade is also important for another reason...it lead to the thinking that nobody is impossible to trade in the league...not even the greatest player of all time ! When there is a rumor about the trade of a superstar in the league , analysts can now always says if you can trade Gretzky, you can trade anybody!

Stamkos got traded to Nashville and yea he’s not like Gretzky level but he’s probably tampas greatest franchise player but yea he’s getting old now so it’s not the craziest thing but it’s still pretty shocking no pun intended.

Especially when the Subban trade is first. Like... one reshaped hockey across North America with teams popping up all along the south of the US from California to Florida and the other... neither team was a Cub winner before/after the trade.

I remember the Subban trade like it was yesterday. I’m a Montrealer and a big habs fan. However Weber was my favorite player in the NHL at the time got a jersey of him with the preds a year prior to the trade and I have like 2 jerseys at home. Subban my favorite on the habs.. when the trade was announced it was essentially my 2 favorite player in the league getting traded one for one… I was so shocked

Not greatly notable but the trade of 1 dollar to the Winnipeg Jets for Kris Draper in 1993 by the Detroit Red Wings, he became a member of the infamous grind line along with Darren McCarty and Kirk Maltby, he is still with the wings in 2024 in a management position. He was part of all 4 Stanley cup winning teams from 1997 to 2008. Best 1 dollar ever spent by an NHL hockey team.

I remember the #99 trade as a teenager. Looking back its kinda funny. $15m in 1988 is $40m today. Used to trade players for cash in return. Now they trade players/picks and retain cash to unload players contacts 😂

In game four of the '96 Cup Final Roy had a shutout. However, so did Panthers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck, up until Uwe Krupp scored for Colorado in triple OT to win the Cup.

I don't know how the Gretzky trade isn't number one since, even in this video, it is credited with helping expand THE LEAGUE on top of his impact on the Kings. When whole teams (plural) are created because a guy was traded... How many trades had that kind of impact?

Weird trade List for sure ! Your #1 Shea Weber for P.K. Subban is even not the #1 trade for each team involve in the trade . Martin Erat to Washignton for Filip Forsberg is a bigger trade for The Predators and François Lacombe and The California Golden Seals 1rst round pick 1971 for Ernie Hicks and Montréal First Round Pick. The California Golden Seals picks was 1rst overall for the Montréal who would pick Canadiens legends Guy Lafleur with it !

Another great trade not mentioned is the #12 Jarome Iginla trade from Dallas Stars to the Calgary Flames in exchange of #25 Joe Nieuwandyk who will help #9 Mike Modano win the cup in 1999 10 years after Nieuwandyk won the first time in Calgary. Poor Jarome Iginla will be one the most influencial player of his era with multiple season of 50 goals. But Iginla will not win the elusive Stabkey Cup Trophy.
