In universe they still suck against a properly run and trained force as being the “elite” force of the Imperial forces doesn’t say much. That’s saying they sucked the least or more accurately were the most loyal to the Emperor and would die a needless and stupid death for his (or his officers) stupid plans. They suffer from the same problems most military units in similar situations of being great and competent in the only thing that matters and that’s being fanatically loyal to the leader. Everything else didn’t matter and wasn’t important like actually running a proper and disciplined military force that could actually fight and win real battles when the enemy actually properly defended itself. The Stormtroopers Corp sucked balls as an actual military force and wouldn’t (and didn’t) last long against a proper and determined force. Just look at Ukraine for a current example of this.

It never gets brought up. But stormtroopers are definitely a more moral army than the clones were. Not from like an individual soldier level. But as a concept. Stormtroopers were citizens of the empire. They were employed. They weren't accelerated aged brainwashed child soldiers. Sure, don't build a fascist army. That's a bad thing. No one should do that. But there were no control chips in the stormtroopers. They were people. Let's face it the republic kinda dropped the ball on what to do with this giant army they were constantly breeding into existence. The clones had to fight just to have names. There was no retirement or after the war scenario in place for them.

its kind of funny. in legends, the Moffs continued to maintain territories and major military forces for decades afterward, whereas in new canon the empire folded quickly enough that what had in legends been an external enemy became an internal one. It wouldn't be difficult to separate the Stormtroopers from the rest of the Army. A chain of command is meant to be distinct, so a given unit would receive orders only from officers with authority to give orders to that unit. Simply establish a Stormtrooper chain of command that goes to Palpatine and doesn't include generals in the regular Army.
@otminealnamer13852 ай бұрын
Man I wish to some day get a game like Republic Commando, but as Imperials. Would even be really cool if in a sequel era to really demonstrate the confusion and frustration with a shattered chain of command, and the fear of an organization you've been indoctrinated into believing are barbaric terrorists suddenly arising to power. Would make a great narrative of brotherhood and a cause to live and die for vs a truth that threatens to break everything a soldier thought was right. I imagine a lot of stormtroopers knew that what they did wasn't "good", but overrode that reluctance with a genuine zealous belief that it was "right" - that it was the way things had to be, or should be, for fear of something worse.

The training focussed on following orders mirror the US military's doctrine rather tightly. Starting as as the most raw boot private on your first day, the NCOs begin acclimating you to following even the most inane and seemingly pointless orders, like moving a particular rock from here to over there, only later to order that you move that same rock back to the spot you'd found it originally. That way, when you're in battle and you squad leader orders to go straight up the middle of the main road and attack a fortified position head on, you're more likely to follow the order without stopping to ask why or think about the potential consequences.
