“The Creative Act” by Rick Rubin, a 2024 Grammy nominee and Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller, explores Rubin’s approach to music production. Unlike other producers, Rubin focuses on creating a space where artists from various genres can discover their true selves. The book delves into Rubin’s reflections on creativity, emphasizing that being an artist is about your relationship with the world rather than specific output. It serves as a generous study, distilling a lifetime of wisdom into an illuminating read that encourages everyone to expand their creative space and embrace the responsibility of fostering moments of exhilaration and transcendence.

Hi!! Thank you so much for the audiobook 🙏🏼 I’m so happy I encountered your channel! I noticed that Who You Were Meant to Be by Lindsay C. Gibson is not available anywhere online… And same goes for Jung's Map of the Soul: An Introduction by Murray Stein, nowhere to be found! As for fiction books, there is not a good solid version of Neuromancer by William Gibson on KZbin.

He helped me finally understand how I could hear a piece of music in my mind, often many months before it was released. When an artistic expression’s time has come, it will reveal itself to those most sensitive. Bono of U2 did Elevation in 2000 not long before 911. I had been hearing this for over a year in my mind before its release. Still haunts me.

I think that kinda points back to the notion that we don’t actually invent any ideas. All ideas are floating around and our consciousness plucks them out of the ether.

I've been immersed in this book for six days now. While it may not offer a foolproof guide on what to do, can any book truly claim that? Doing so would contradict the essence of the author's message. Through a thorough exploration of Rick's work and over a dozen podcasts, it's clear he doesn't promise a roadmap to success. Instead, he presents an outline of strategies that could enhance creativity in art and music. As a piano composer, I find resonance in his insights on harnessing inspiration and structuring creative work. It's about utilizing what resonates with you and letting the universe handle the rest.

This is just my opinion. I have respect for Rick Rubin the music producer but this book was a disappointment. It doesn't have good anecdotes that would have made it more interesting. Very few anecdotes. In other words, why didn't he tell more examples (stories from the recording sessions)where he used these methods of his. Now you have pretentious words that don't have concrete meaning. He paints words in the air that are just clichés. The book might work for some people but I didn't get much out of it.
@telzer
@telzer 25 күн бұрын
@zerocool4159 Dense? I try not to😉I consider it a Self Help -book. For me the book offered too much clichés. "A bridge is easier to build, when it's clear what is either side of it." And many many more like this. Page after page just cliches. I was hoping more of Rick's personal touch. Like I said, it may work for somebody. I think Rick left the tips (no anecdotes) intentionally open, so the book would reach a broader audience. That's all 🤠

Rick is hated by most artist that ever ‘worked’ with him. He never shows up to the studio and when he does he sits on the couch and just says I don’t like it and leaves. Any input he has actually makes albums worse. Just look it up. Def America ruined a lot of albums.

Regardless of anyone's opinion, he presents an interesting perspective which could be beneficial for others and is worth hearing/reading.
