This is about as close as I've seen to the actual rig, well done. Little feedback though: so much backlight that the pov is too dark and we can't see details very well. And the clutter on the table distracts from the rig, which along with the lighting makes it harder to see how everything connects. Notice the difference from 9:20 when the light was on the rig instead of behind it. I think a build video would be awesome, btw.

Beast rig! And very neat solution for shooting behind you. I need to make time and finally watch that movie. Nice stuff man!

Great stuff but could't grasp some parts because it's all backlit haha I'd love to watch you assembling this setup in a well-lit place maybe? That'll be super helpful!!

Be carefull using Dtap splitters powering all the connected deviced you might run into problems if you also attach camera and focus motor devices. Overal looking great and nice way to film. Was thinking to build something like this too
@dodmedia
@dodmedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks Patrick! What's the concern about splitting the D-tap? I can't imagine the camera and focus motor would draw nearly enough to put the overall performance at risk. Interesting to try it though and see. I'll report back 🤘
@patrick66058
@patrick66058 Жыл бұрын
@@dodmedia dont try, it probably cuts power to all devices. And might break things you dont want to be broken. Depending on the quality of cables and power circuits of the devices if they have built in safety. Think of it like a pipeline where the only DTap powering all the devices is a small hose. You can put water through but as you attach more big hoses on that small one the small hose will act like a funnel and fail to deliver. Amp draw acts like this in electrical installations.

Hmm I'll have a look at the Sony batteries and the gimbal handle battery and see what their wattage is. But surely the worst that will happen if there's not enough current to power everything is that it'll cut out. I've had this with monitor on mains, powering the camera on a dummy battery. PSU wasn't outing enough amps so when I'd hit record the camera would just lose power and shut off
@patrick66058
@patrick66058 Жыл бұрын
@@dodmedia the amount off wattage doesnt matter. Thats the capacity/volume that the battery has. Not the amount of power you can run through your system, yes your stuff will just turn off but you can also break things. If the power plate doesnt have some type off current detection/protection inside and you will generate to much current on one single wire/Dtap port that cannot deliver the amount off energy all the devices need. Check how much amps the plate and splitter are rated for and calculate what all the attached devices Probably what happened when you had power to the camera went down is because the dummy battery has a PCB in it that measures the amount off current going through the electrical circuit and cuts off before anything bad happens to the device it is attached to. So its not that it just cuts off power but its there to protect the camera.

Very cool! but a bit hard to see eveything when its backlit and lots of stuff in the background. But love the actual rig, nice build :)

Sorry about that! It's a fair point. I might make a proper assembly video of it so it's clearer. Would that be of interest?

@@dodmedia As far as anyone knew, this was the only video and there no plans for more. Just tired of mediocre how-to videos created by people who are supposably videographers and should know about lighting. I don't know why you'd upload the video instead of just reshooting it. It's quite impossible to see any of the individual pieces and how they attach to each other. It's really unusable as a tutorial. At the very least you should have recorded an assembly video putting everything together. Even with decent lighting some of the angles are just perplexing. Other people who have done this build has had good lighting but made a cheap poor-mans version of it. I was looking forward to this one as it looked thoughtout so I'm sure you could understand the frustration.
@dodmedia
@dodmedia Жыл бұрын
I do get the frustration, and have been there myself, and I apologise for the poor lighting. It didn't seem too bad to me at the time but then I already know the build so I didn't need the level of clarity that someone watching this for a step by step might want, and that was my fuckup. As far as anyone knew though you just had to check the top comment I pinned, before posting yours, to know a better build was coming. And it's coming today.

Are you blind or partially blind? How can you not see what is on the rig, it is clear as day. Feels like you are just complaining for the sake of it, but I guess that wouldn't be a novel idea on the internet.
