Back in the 80's, during the Thur. theocratic school, the "brothers" were downgraded and "counseled" if they did not use enough hand gestures in their presentation/talk. I thought that the counsel and the hand gestures were so creepy even then. I always notice the hand gestures now in talks and cringe. BTW, glad your cat made an appearance playing with the blinds.

First, you are spot on with your analysis of david schafer(Yeah the dude always signed his name with a small d, he loved that, when you asked him about it he got that weird scrunched up smile. So that was why I watched this video, because I always was taken back by his mannerisms and methods of teaching. This is the third time I've heard him speak since leaving dubs, 25 years now, and its like he just uses the same reasoning points for everything, I've seriously heard him use these same lines of reasoning for anytime he speaks, whether elder meeting, talk, answer at meeting etc. So as you requested here are a few weird, troubling instances. 1. We went to do elder shepherding calls on a brutally cold Saturday. His car wouldn't start so we took the subway. After we got back, just in front of 124 Columbia hts. He says to me. " Hey, wouldn't' it be interesting if a single brother had the humility to be on a circuit assembly part and was willing to talk about his masterbation problem." 2. We went to investigate a brother in my book study who had alchohol dependency problems, Big guy, two kids and uber nice wife, I still remember this mans huge nice smile. So this guy was in the hospital and when we talked to him he just fell apart, like utter shaking and trembling. So I went to his side and put my hands on his shoulder. When we left Schafer counseled me for being to familiar with him on an "investigation". Two days later schafer tells me the investigation is over because this man is Dead. Hum Maybe we could have been a little kinder to him. He was just flat out cold, and his reflection of the whole situation was just coldness. That really burned me up, to this day it burns me up. 3. He had me do an audit on the accounts when I just arrived at Bethel. I did the accounts where I had come from so he must have thought that would work. So I looked everything over, and after diligent search and talking the data over with every congregation accountant I could find at Bethel It was evident that the ex-bethelite who was doing the accounts was stealing money, like almost $10,000, and it was really easy to prove, At least there was that much missing unaccounted for. So when I presented the information to him in a meeting with him and the new accounts servant, he utterly dismissed it, like completely just looked away with echos of trepidation.

Oh, great! Now I'm reminded of the sight of Lett gesticulating with his arms as he says (in that condescending manner of his): "We warmly welcome you to this month's 'Jw Broadcasting'." It's a wonder he didn't try that at the regional assembly a few years ago when he referred to a baby as "a little enemy", although he did crack that sadistic grin of his when he said that. Truly sickening! And Schaeffer is almost a carbon copy in that department.

Indeed! The worst part is, this wasn't always the case. I remember hearing orators at the Society's assemblies when I was growing up. Even the non-orators knew how to speak publicly. It was only in the late '90's that I began noticing a trend toward a monotone amongst the speakers on the platform. I never liked that trend. Then, the "Theocratic School Education" book and the subsequent changes to the Theocratic School codified that trend. It was complete with the 2009 Song Book, particularly with that Society nursery rhyme "Listen, Obey and Be Blessed". I thought that it couldn't possibly get any worse after that. Five years later, the Society began the "Broadcasting". So, not only have speakers adopted a monotone (ridiculous in itself), it's been combined with infantilizing language. That combination is positively intolerable.
