I was introduced to the poems and srories of Robert Service 53 tears ago by Larry Beck, the "Bard of Alaska" at the Expo Center in Fairbanks. Larry performed live on stage during the summer. He was absolutely incredible. When he did "The Shooting of Dam McGrew" the lights in the theater acctually went out and two shots (blanks) rang out and made everyone jump. This rendition and presentation by Hal Jeayes is absolutely wonderful. Well done and BRAVO! BRAVO!

It’s almost as if this man is telling this story a mere few days after it happened, or right after. It’s like he is Robert Service, and he is telling the story about the time HE cremated Sam McGee. Unbelievably fantastic.

I hear this was my mom's favorite poem from her childhood in the 1930's. I can see my grandpa reciting this to her as she sat on his knee as a little girl. He was quite the poet and story teller in his own right. Thanks!

This is the best "reading" of Sam McGee I have heard outside my own home. Hal Jeayes catches the cadence of it perfectly and makes it come alive. Sam McGee was a favorite poem of my Father's. Growing up we all participated in it's recitation at the dinner table. Bravo to Hal and Davin Jeayes.

First Let me say Hal Jeayes is a superior actor His voice was clear ass a bell. The rhythm of the flow in which he presented this poem was easy to the ear . Let allows one time to fully comprehend the gist of the poem. His facial expressions were impressive aspirations of emotions. Davin Jeayes , The production was very picturistic . It reflected the mood and theme with an atmosphere by the enchantments of the background and sound effects. Yes this is the very best presentation Thank you Please do more.

Though we diverged in '75, and fought on and off through '14, shared heritages and outlooks endure. I think, perhaps, it is an affinity for adventure that binds our anglophone nations. Brashly thumbing my way down the Alcan in April, 1970, in youthful ignorance and optimism, I learned that 3+ pounds of down provide no insulation on the side compressed into an embrace with the old, frigid and lingering snows outside Whitehorse, YT. Visions of wilderness traversed along that slender thread of "civilization" have haunted me for decades since. I could not answer their call, for obligations pulled harder, despite my lingering for times I never knew, though they reside in the memory of my species. You should know that some have, indeed, seen your posting and perceive your passion.

Definitely the best version! Great job! I’m hoping to recite this during a reading next month, so I’m listening to various narrators, or storytellers. I’m a woman, but I’ve always loved this poem and memorized it as a teen. It’s been a long time… I don’t remember all but I don’t think it’s about memorization necessarily, but I’m definitely practicing!

There are several interpretations of this great poem on KZbin. Some are more ambitious than this one, attempting to illustrate the story more literally with full-blown reenactments of the individual scenes. There's even a reading by Johnny Cash, which is also very good. But this, I think, is the best of all of them--at least, the ones that I have seen. The actor's face is so evocative, his reading dramatic, and yet natural. He is the most convincing as the teller of the tale. And there are just enough sound effects to add some atmosphere. Well done.
