Ever since this game was released and heavily praised by reviewers, I’ve had my doubts. A trick taking game which doesn’t allow talking? On the odd occasion I play hearts with the family, the chat is what keeps it fun. In a game with such simple mechanisms, how much do the missions feel varied? Thanks for another interesting and independent review.

The ‘missions’ fell away from the game quite rapidly and in some cases we didn’t even bother to read the flavour text. I can understand why people like this. It’s completely different and turns the genre on its head. We were sceptical when we found the bolt on rules to make the game harder and ultimately this ended up abstract, clunky and frustrating mainly for the very reason you highlight above.

Having to keep schtum when playing a board/card game... lots of difficulty for my family then! Oh, and YES! I see Thunder Road on the shelf... quite near to Car Wars. Never played Car Wars, but I bought TR about the time that Games Workshop had White Line Fever. As a Mad Max fan - Thunder Road was an insta-buy when I saw the box artwork :D

Great game back in the 80s...not so much now though. Still dig it out on occasion. Dark Future killer it is not...

Me thinks there is a sequel now that one must play underwater. Might be wrong. Be disappointed with anything less, though.

We enjoyed it. We did a live playthrough of it. It got old once we realised you can count to rhythm in your head.
